FlexSim unable to open

[ FlexSim 23.0.1 ]

Hello everyone,

I'm reaching out because I'm experiencing some issues with FlexSim. I'm unable to open any version of FlexSim as the theme appears briefly and then closes automatically. I'm not sure what's causing this sudden problem.

@MPeyman are you sure, FlexSim is explicitly addressed in your nvidia driver settings to be used as a 3D program? And do you have started FlexSim without absolutely no internet connection. You switched off WLAN, disconnected any ethernet LAN cable and you have switched off any cellular mobile data link. Your description looks for me, FlexSim uses still a system graphic card with a pre-installed driver.

@MPeyman,

I was also having issues opening your model. I deleted my prefs.t file like @Ben Wilson suggested and it opened just fine.

Dear @Jacob W2 , at the beginning when I faced this issue I deleted my prefs.t but unfortunately, it was not a solution.

The prefs.t file is at a level above that in :

%APPDATA%/FlexSim/FlexSim23.0

Do you have other versions installed that work? Can you send the latest prefs.t file you have from the latest working version?

You can also try this prefs.t file:

prefs.t

Do you have a second screen attached to your desktop?

The lack of Display information in your control panel suggest the nVidia drivers/services are not correctly configured. Please have a look at this to try and rectify it.

@MPeyman, that you now are able to get a bit ahead to a running FlexSim can be a result of a Windows update. Unfortunately Windows dispatches its own drivers. Since you have 2 graphic cards in your system, you can update them both to use manufacturer driver instead default windows drivers. But even manufacturer drivers have better performance than windows default drivers, they can still contain bugs. Sometimes I have to try some versions to get a stable system. This happened with an Intel driver. At the end I used an older driver 1 version earlier than newest version. With 2 Graphic cards installed you have 3 monitor management consoles to configure a multi monitor system: Windows, Intel and Nvidia.

A black 3D View Window in FlexSim is a typical indicator, that the graphic system is not configured correctly. The last and least performant setting would be to use the generic view in FlexSim Environment for Graphic output. All graphic output is processed by your CPU.

If you cannot get it to work, then you might think about a different newer system: a refurbished stationary desktop PC or mobile notebook. Or you are allowed to work on hardware in your institute.

Hi @MPeyman,

Referencing your screenshots in this comment, it appears that FlexSim can open, but once you open a model it crashes?

Instead of opening a model, try this after opening FlexSim software:

  1. Go to the main menu. Select File > Global Preferences.
  2. Go to the Graphics tab.
  3. Change the OpenGL Context setting to Generic
  4. Click OK.
  5. Close FlexSim. This saves the new graphics setting to a new prefs.t file.

Now try opening FlexSim and opening your model.

If it doesn't crash, this could at least be a temporary solution. We've just disabled 3D graphics acceleration. Now all 3D rendering will be handled by your CPU. This is slower and you will be missing some features, textures, animations, etc, but FlexSim should not crash as a result of an issue with your GPU or graphics driver.

This may allow you to use FlexSim while you sort out the graphics issue or get a new laptop that meets FlexSim's minimum requirements.

Let us know how it goes.
