[ FlexSim 18.1.2 ]

Hello All,

We have limited Optquest licenses when compared to flexsim licenses which are being used in different countries round the clock. The issue we are facing recently is the Optquest licenses are being blocked with some user who is away from the computer for long time. There might be cases like they might be running Optquest over night. So we cannot use TIMEOUTALL which was mentioned in the post (https://answers.flexsim.com/questions/24764/release-lan-license-seat-from-disconnected-client.html)

Is it possible to incorporate Auto call and return opt quest license only when it is used. This feature will be very useful for most of the companies using the LAN based licenses.

We have observed that users using flexsim v19.0 are getting allocated with optquest even after if they do not check the box for "Checkout optquest feature". Is there any preference to the license allocation if a organisation using multiple versions of flexsim ?

Thanks,

Praneeth Akondi

Hi @asb.praneeth,

The checkbox for "Checkout optquest feature" is only in force if the checkbox for "Only checkout features for license type:" is also in use.

Properly using this feature, with your users proactively checking the box to checkout the OptQuest feature only when they need it, is probably the best solution. It does require your users to only request an OptQuest license when needed, and when they close FlexSim, to be sure to uncheck that OptQuest feature box first (so that they don't automatically get an OptQuest license the next time they start).

Our experience with Options files is pretty limited, but you may want to explore them to see what is possible and test a few possible solutions. For instance, you may limit the optquest feature to just certain computers.

I don't think using a line like "TIMEOUT optquest 900" would work for your purposes, since FlexSim simply being open, regardless of whether OptQuest is actually in use at the moment, is enough for the server to think that the client should keep the feature activated.

Options file documentation is found in Chapter 13 (page 155) of FlexNet's License Administration Guide.
