Inside Flame, is there some kind of "proper way" of viewing 2:1 anamorphic material without stretching actual media? Setting aspect ratio and only viewing wide image just like in After Effects pressing <-> icon under viewer if you know what I mean...

The button you are looking for is "Use Ratio". It is located in the Viewing Settings panel of the Player (accessible from the Options drop down button) or from the View menu in the Batch and Effects tab.
