Export Sequence Using Proxy Renders

Anonymous

Been working on some cleanup for a music video in Flame this past week. I'm working with 2K proxies and rendering the BFX at proxy res instead of full resolution for speed. In instances where I just want to export the timeline to post for review (1080 res), is there a way to just force Flame to use the rendered proxies on output rather than rendering everything at full res?

I've tried using the proxy extract in Tools, but it doesn't seem to work on a sequence. I get a "CLIP: Unable to get proxy resolution" message whenever I try to use that operation. It will work if I use it on a clip though. Everything in the timeline is rendered at proxy. So I was just curious to see if this was at all possible in Flame.

Thanks!

Hi,

This should be possible with Flame as far as I was aware.

The exact proxies normally works but I am wondering if because it is an edited sequence that could be causing the problems.

My suggestion is to go back into your sequence and add a new track above the edit. Select the Track, right-click and commit it to create a single flattened segment (without destroying your main edit). Drag the newly created segment out to the reels as a single clip and try extract the proxy from that.

Hope that helps.

So I've tried to commit on a track above the edit, but it doesn't seem to creating any sort of segment/clip for me to drag out to the reels. There are several commit options when I right click on the gap. I've tried them all (Commit Timeline FX, Commit BFX, Commit History, Hard Commit) and I either get no result or a render that takes just as long as a full render would with no result afterwards. Is there something that I'm missing? Perhaps I have a setting somewhere thats prohibiting this?

Hi,

Once you have created the new track, you should be able to select the virtual segment( gap) on that track. It will run the length of the sequence.

When it is selected, you will be able to commit it.

Hope this helps.

Right so, right-clicking on that gap wasn't yielding any results. I did try again this morning and was able to get it to render with it resulting with a 'Mixed' segment in the timeline. This was only working with the commit timeline FX option... until today it had just been crashing out on that option.

The issue now is that it essentially renders the clip at full res when doing the commit. So when I drag the clip to the reels, its a full res clip as opposed to a proxy res clip. Additionally if I try to Extract Proxies on that committed clip, I get the same error message when attempting to render (CLIP: Unable to get proxy resolution).

So it would seem like committing the clips doesn't ultimately get me what I'm looking for, which is the ability to export my timeline at the proxy res, using the proxy renders I had been making throughout the day. If I need to export a timeline for review, I'll need to do a full res render before I can export.

Any other thoughts on how to achieve this? Thanks.
