solid import plugin

Just did the FC 2017 sp5 update and have lost the ability to open or import Inventor .ipt files. Error message reads: solid import plugin is not properly installed.

How do I fix this?

Since we haven't had any action on this thread, just want to confirm I have the same issue with my users. First brought to my attention with an SP3 install and continuing with 2 SP5 installs. Both are Win10 pro systems.

Something happened in SP5 where you will need to import a Step (.STP) file first after starting FeatureCAM before importing an .IPT file.  This .STP file does not need to be imported into the same part file as the .IPT file it just need to be imported and the resulting part file does not need to remain open.  Once this is done you will be able to import .IPT files with no error messages as long as FeatureCAM, not the part file, remains open.  If FeatureCAM is closed and reopened then you will need to import the .STP file again.

I've been having the same issue and attempted the suggested workaround but received the same error message when attempting to import an .STP file. I don't receive either message, however, when using "Import Using Exchange" and the import is successful.

I'm running Ultimate 2017 R1 SP5

One of my MEs told me he had resorted to "import using exchange" to get around the error, but another ME indicated this method sometimes results in a loss of detail. Neither have tried the .stp file method yet so I can't yet verify whether that's a good workaround or not.

There are a lot of variables when using "import using exchange", I've had it mess up some models too. Another possible workaround is to open the model in the Manufacturing Data Exchange Utility. Here you should be able to import the .IPT and then export the file as another format. What's different is here you can go into the settings and tweek them much like refining a post processor.

I know the root issue is that inventor files don't open in FeatureCAM, and that definitely needs to be resolved, but I do hope this info helps while they work on a fix.

Cheers

Importing the .step file has worked, so far, for me.

This Problem will be resolved with service pack 6 release date unknown! I have had this problem when running Inventor & FeatureCam together but the work around will not work for me!
