PartMaker 2021 Cannot Import Inventor 2021 Files

All,

Good morning!  I have a user who has run into an issue where they cannot import Inventor 2021 files into PartMaker 2021.  They must either push over older Inventor files or STEP out the 2021 Inventor data.  I don't use PartMaker, so I downloaded a trial copy and I can verify the same behavior on my side.  Is there some add-in that we're missing to allow these files to load into PartMaker?  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Thanks in advance for any assistance, hope all is well and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

Pete

Please give a kudos if helpful and mark as a solution if somehow I got it right.

@petestrycharske

I would think the ATF would import this file type, but I do not know which version it supports.  You probably need to report this to development via a support case.

As for what @bhorstTGM48 is referring to, the AMDEU is another method for translating files.  You have to ability to force FeatureCAM to use this by:

  1. FeatureCAM Options
  2. File
  3. Import Types

Unfortunately, it looks as if the latest version that is supported is 2018 Inventor files.

@ChristopherMarion PartMaker and FeatureCam are two totally separate programs that just happen to be bundled together.  Not all import options are available in PartMaker.

I have mentioned before that it's almost laughable that Autodesk provides better support to import the competitions solid models than its own products solids.

Hi @ChrisDPCnc

Yes, my mistake.  Partmaker does not give you the import options like I laid out in my response.

Partmaker does have native import options and it uses the same AMDEU for translation (as I showed in my response).  Unfortunately, it looks like IPT files newer than 2018 are not supported by this translator.

I agree.  Partmaker being an Autodesk product should be able to handle this Inventor file.  This should be reported to development if it has not already.

I have now logged an 'enhancement request' with support, regarding in my case to lack of compatibility with Fusion 360 models and more generally with lack of support for ADs own model file types with PartMaker.

I'm not sure how important AD would rank this but the Ref is DCPM-443 if anyone wants to check in in the future.

PartMaker is still a vital tool for us running Swiss and Twin-spindle/Triple-turret machines, having Fusion is a bonus for modelling but only if we can use the models inside PartMaker.
