Working on server is too slow

Hello everybody,

We are facing the following issue:

Previously I was working alone, so I could work only with the "Defaut" project and use my local SSD drive.

However our department has now 3 people in total that are working in Inventor and usind FDU at the same time.

Since that I've prepared a project which is mapped on our server drive and noticed out IT admin to split a part of the reamining capacity on server and make from this a drive. Everything works fine except the slow speed while inserting/editting FDU assets. Each time I start to work on a new FDU assembly the speed get slower and slower the more assets I have putted into the assembly. For examplet after putting the 3rd asset it takes me approx 5-10 secs to have it createed and inserted into assembly.

Also the server project is set up to put all created FDU assets to server directory T:\Factory assets.

In the previous company where I was working we used also project files that were mapped on server without using Vault and the parts from content center were working fast despite we had old computers in compairing with the actual situation.

Could you please help us solve this issue?

We'd like to achieve this situation:

More people can work on one project at the same time.

Faster assets inserting/editting.

All withotu Vault Basic (we are only 2-3 persons).

I will contact our IT admin to give me some info about our server and its settings.

Thanks in advance

BR

We are using everything in the actual version (Inventor 2022, FDU 2022).

HW configuration:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900 CPU @ 3.10GHz
RAM: 80 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 ( Dedicated Memory 8.0 GB, Total Memory 48 GB)
Second video card (not beign used in Inventor): Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630
Operating System: Windows 10  Version 10.0.19041

PS: I'll update the info about our servers.

Hi @jan_vojtek ,

Would you please try to create project in your local drive and share that folder with your co-workers and see if they experience this performance issue? (or the other way around)

I want to rule out the server issue.

Hi, yesterday we tried to create for each project its new project file in its directory. And it seems like it's working much faster now! It could be cause because in the previous settings where we had mapped all projects that are in the server directory Inventor had each time to check between other 4500 instances in the Factory assets folder if the assets hasn't beend created in the past. Since FDU works that way we tried to create a separate project files for separate projects in where the only same thing is the template folder. Since that these new project file for separate projects don't have to check duplicity between 4,5K other assets.

Conclusion: I strongly recommend to create for each project (if you don't use Vault) a unique project file where the only same thing will be the template folder.

Hi @jan_vojtek ,

This is an interesting finding and it might be true:

"It could be cause because in the previous settings where we had mapped all projects that are in the server directory Inventor had each time to check between other 4500 instances in the Factory assets folder if the assets hasn't beend created in the past. "

Thank you for the tip. How are you collabrating with co-workers if you are using different project file? or are you using same project file, just a new one with fewer asset instances in "Factory Assets" folder?

When there are f.e. two people working on one project, we use the same unique project file(inventor), which is placed in the project folder. This unique project file(for inventor nventor) is mapped only to see the unique project folder. With this we can prevent from having too much assets instances in one project folder.

Hi @jan_vojtek ,

Would you take a snapshot on the project folder? we are very interested on how you solved this! 😉

Just as an FYI: we don't scan through the 4500 files.
We calculate the name of the new file we are trying to create and check if that specific file is there or not
