Part of this idea is just getting myself educated on conduit pre-fab to any experts out there. Whenever I walk a jobsite, I'll occasionally inspect the conduit runs. I noticed the vast majority of buildings I design are full of straight runs of conduit. Next I notice a lot of small offsets, mostly 30deg or so to re-align about 1 inch or 2.
My idea is, why aren't there a prefab'd set of conduit bends available? Is everything so custom on each project that it's easier for a person in the field to just make all the bends on the fly, than to have the electrical designer actually lay out the conduit runs efficiently to where the subcontractor can reliably prefab all the 90's, 45's and 1" and 1/2" offsets?
I'm looking as some of these bends on my jobsite and its like they missed by 1/2" on purpose. I'm just wondering if its easier to just have the parts barcoded and show up in pre-packaged boxes ready for install?
I understand that there could be unforeseen conflicts and the need for a "parts now" approach, but couldn't 95% of a building's conduit, easily (if modeled correctly) be prefabricated and sent to the site for just in time delivery?
