Process run RIF. location

I am using process run in AutoCad 3D to insert objects.  I objects are landing in random locations and I don't know how to dictate where they appear.  

I am currently working on a 18 story building on story at a time and would like to be able to have these objects, when loaded, appear on the floor I am working on.  

Can anyone help with this?

Are you trying to do this in AutoCAD MEP?  Plain AutoCAD does not really have this function so I am not sure how to help further. I know that when I used to do architectural projects between Revit and AutoCAD, that I would keep exports for each level in their own drawing file so as to keep them unique and to make placement easier. I would then Xref files together as needed.

Something else to consider is whether or not shared coordinates are being used in the REVIT model.

I wish I could offer more support for this issue. Perhaps it would be worth posting in the MEP board or even in the Revit board.

I have not learned how to use the xref command so I have not yet tried your method.  Is it possible to xref. an object between AutoCAD and Revit?  Parden if that doesn't make any sense for I really no very little about xref.

I don't work in Revit all that much anymore. I did just open it up and link an AutoCAD file that has external references. I was surprised to see everything come in properly.  Now, going the other way and exporting to AutoCAD I am not so sure.  Do you have a specific workflow that we can take a look at?

Are you working in primarily AutoCAD or Revit?  Please give me a bit more background on how you need your workflow to function?

I am working for an HVAC company.  I am supporting the Drafter by getting the equipment (Blocks/Families) ready for him to insert into the 3D AutoCAD drawings he is working on.  He is AutoCAD Fabrication and Navisworks.  

Most of the Equipment is drawn by the manufacturer in Revit.  I download the Revit family from the company and go through this process.

In Revit:

1) With the drawing open I select and highlight the drawing

2) With the Add-Ins tab selected I then press Store Design Line Elements as well as Store Graphics Elements and then I press Out (all seen on the tip ribbon)

In AutoCAD:

3) I use the command Process Run 

4) I select the RIF file that I created when I was in Revit in Step 2

The problem I am having is I cannot determine how to dictate where is item will appear in AutoCAD and it is causing a lot of trouble for the drafter who is doing the drawing.  

I have attached three screen shots.  I will send another two screenshots in a following message.

I have discovered a solution.

In Revit:

When I selection the object drawn there the properties (circled in blue) are displayed on a left hand bar.  Here there are multiple data options including Offset (circled in Red).

I am able to change this value which is offset from the Host at whatever value I enter.  This is giving the RIF file the same properties and bringing the unit into AutoCAD at the appropriate height desired.  

I have not determined how to change the host.  This I would also think could be a solution.

I think most of this issue resides in the Revit export. I suggest you start an additional thread in the Revit forum. In the mean time I will move this thread to Fabrication where other Community members will likely have much better hands-on advice.

when you import a .rif, it places it in relation to its location in Revit. so if you place the object at 0,0,0, when you import it into CAD it will be at 0,0,0. if you are pulling it from a design model, there is a possibility of the model being geo spatial instead of Cad native. so it will come in rotated or in a location that doesn't make sense when viewing in CAD
