Maya 2020 says I don't have a license when opening, despite having a valid license

I have a valid student license, but every time I open Maya it says I need to update my license. I have had Maya for some time now with no problems and Maya 2020 is the only version that works well on my computer. I wanted to try to re-download the 2020 version to see if that would solve the problem, but it had been removed from the product download page. Has the 2020 version been discontinued in a way I can no longer access it even with a valid license?  What I should try from here to solve the issue?

It tells you in the error message what the problems could be

Did you look into those?

Did you check the licenses on the license server?

Did you ask your IT dept?

I did look into that. I attached a picture of the message itself. The error message is labeled as number [-10.32.0] and says "Network License Not Available" with common causes being all licenses are in use, the server is down, or the license has expired. Then directs me to contact a system administrator or support.

Since I am the only one using the license, then the problem is not that all the licenses are in use. My license has not expired. I suppose that leaves the next likely explanation to be that the servers are down.

I guess without any other options, I will just have to wait for a while and see if the problem resolves itself.

The exact issue is discussed here

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Autodesk-Network-l...

The "license server" is at your office, managed by someone that issued you this specific local-to-you "network license". The plausible answer is someone else in your organization is using your MAYA license right now (or home laptop still up and running MAYA right now?).

Your IT should be your next go-to person(s) to ask.

Unless you are a sole-proprietor and only individual at the organization, them I'm not sure how to set up a License Server at your office for MAYA: did someone else help you with that?

I see, so it is because I am on an education license and there are probably too many people using Maya right now. I misunderstood what it meant before. Thank you very much! This was very helpful.

Hi @mlemcd3,

Unfortunately, Maya 2020 is no longer supported within the Autodesk Education Plan, which is limited to the current version plus the next three versions. As of writing this would include 2025, 2024, 2023 and 2022.

I would recommend updating to the newest version to ensure support and availability for as long as possible.
