How to get Educational Software & Troubleshooting Steps

If you are wanting to sign up for the Autodesk Educational Software, or have signed up and are having issues accessing your software, please read the below information.

Getting Access to Educational Software

In May 2020, the Education Program implemented a new verification process for Educational access to products. When signed in & trying to access products & services from the Education Community you'll now be prompted to go through the process below.

  1. You need to be enrolled or employed by a Qualified Educational Institution.
  2. Visit the Get Products page, then select "Get Started" or "Sign-in" to start the verification process. You will need to fill out your Country, Territory or Region, your Educational Role, your Institution type, and your birthday.

Ver1.png

  1. You will then be asked to enter your school or university information. Simply start typing and a list of selections will appear.

Ver2.png

  1. After filling out this information, wait for your verification email from Verify@SheerID.com
  2. To verify that you're eligible to access Autodesk Educational licenses, proof of enrollment or employment needs to be provided & uploaded. You have a limited time to provide the documentation. Once uploaded, your document will be reviewed and you'll receive an email within 48 hours to confirm your status.

Ver3.png

  1. Educational Software includes the current version & 3 versions back
  2. After receiving the approved verification email, return to the Get Products page. It will provide you with all the information you need to download, install & activate, you will also receive an email containing your Serial# & product key. This information will appear in your Autodesk account in 24-72hrs.

There is no need to manually activate newer versions of Autodesk products. They are activated online automatically, so a good internet connection is required.

Common Questions about signing up:

What kind of document(s) do I upload if asked? You'll need to upload school-issued documentation that shows your:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • School name
  • Date showing current enrollment

Please note that we will be reviewing the date of enrollment, not the print date or view date of your document(s). For example, your transcript may have been printed yesterday, but it shows that your most recent enrollment in classes was a previous term. Future terms are also not eligible, so acceptance letters unfortunately are not proof you are currently enrolled.

I am home-schooled. Am I eligible for the Autodesk Education plan?  Yes, if you meet the criteria for home-school access. Visit the Autodesk Education Community, choose a software title, and create an Autodesk account. When prompted to choose “Institution type” select the option that is the most relevant to your situation. Once your email address has been verified, you will be required to complete your education profile. When asked for the name of your educational institution, type “Home” in the field and then select “Home School (Any)” from the drop-down list. Proceed to complete your profile and you will then be asked to check your information is correct. Review it and then click the “Verify” button. You will then be asked to upload documentary proof to confirm your home school status. The document must show your first and last name, the name of the home school or home school association and be dated within the last three months. Official letters from curriculum providers or local school districts are acceptable.

I have an existing 1-year or 3-year individual Educational license for an Autodesk product, and it is due to expire/has expired. What do I do? Visit the Autodesk Education Community, sign in to your account, and if prompted confirm your eligibility for free educational access to Autodesk products and services. Then you can access a new subscription for your chosen software product through the Autodesk Education plan.

I’m waiting for my eligibility for free educational access to Autodesk products and services to be confirmed. How can I access Autodesk software in the meantime? We thank you for your patience and trust that your eligibility status will be determined shortly. If you are over 18 and have an urgent need for immediate access to Autodesk® software, you may consider accessing a free 30-day trial

I was deemed ineligible for free educational access to Autodesk software and services, but I believe there has been a mistake. Who can I contact to resolve this? Please contact SheerID, our verification service provider, at customerservice@sheerID.com for assistance. They will be happy to help.

If you have successfully submitted your information and still having access issues:

Haven’t received approval from SheerID? Remember, verification can take up to 48 hours. SheerID will notify you if they need more information. Please make sure to check your SPAM filter as we are seeing reports of the notification being directed there.

You can check on your status if it has been more than 48 hours by reaching out to SheerID Support.

It's been more than 48 hours, you've checked your SPAM filter, and there's still no email from SheerID: Reach out to SheerID support, and make sure to review the SheerID Faq's in the meantime: https://verify.sheerid.com/autodesk-student-faq/

When trying to confirm my eligibility for educational access to Autodesk products and services, I couldn’t find my educational institution in the drop-down list provided. What should I do? If your educational institution is not listed, please complete the “Request to add school” online form. This will initiate a manual vetting process and, if approved, the school will be added to the Qualified Educational Institution list, typically within seven days. Please return to the Autodesk Education Community after seven days to determine if your educational institution has been approved and added to the school list.

I’ve been asked to provide additional documentation to confirm my eligibility for educational access to Autodesk products and services. How long will it take? Timeframes vary. Some general guidelines for document review are:

  • Customers in the United States: Typically takes approximately 20 minutes
  • Customers outside the United States: Typically, within 48 hours, but may take longer.

Note: Be sure to check your email junk/spam folder

Having issues downloading once you have been verified? First, review the download and installation help articles. Try switching the method that you are downloading with. Still having issues? Check your system requirements. If all is good there, post to the Installation and Licensing Forum for community based help, remembering to include as many details as possible (OS, product, version, error messages, etc.) or reach out to Education Support.

Still have questions or issues? For any account issues, contact Education Support. For SheerID verification issues, contact SheerID Student Support. For technical support or troubleshooting assistance, you can either contact the Education Support team or post to the appropriate Installation and Licensing or Product forum.

I would like to say that the support for the education field by AutoDesk is horrendous! Email only support is a sham! I have been trying to get help renewing our Universities licenses since early July with no luck. The online renewal process isnt working. Support says they will generate the license file for me on Aug 7th. Today is the 26th and no reply from them, even after many follow-ups. How does AutoDesk think that treating their education clients like this is acceptable? We have thousands of students who want to use their products and cannot. There has to be a better way. Or a another alternative program. Who else has had these issues??? Speak up so we can get better service please.

Hi @Robin.SeverinsenYBDEP,

Thank you. However, we took a closer look at your website and it sounds like your school is a vocational/adult education school, which would be properly classified as post-secondary.

I realize this is translated via Google Translate, but this explains that your school is a vocational college:

Hello @gabe.anderson

We educate 10th to 12th graders and it is voluntary in Sweden to go to this type of school.

How do we solve this? Can we download Autocad pretending we are a university or can you manually change it to a high school?

Thank you

Robin

Hi @Robin.SeverinsenYBDEP,

Provided your students are over 13, they are able to get an education account.

When you create an education account you are given the option to select your institution type, please see below:
2022-08-30 14_16_43-Autodesk - Education.png

If you have already selected university, reach out to educational support who can change this: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/contact-support

Hi @Robin.SeverinsenYBDEP,

Thanks for confirming. As @leowarren34 noted, for the time being, your school will appear when selecting University/Post-Secondary for Institution Type, but I've also shared your additional details with our verification partner to review and consider changing the classification to high school.

Regards,

Gabe

Good day

I'm trying to renew access as student. When I sign in and click on "GET STARTED", it brings up this pop up. Screenshot (1188).png

However when I want to get autodesk software, it redirects me to the pop up and now it's just a cycle. Please assist.

Have you fixed the general education licence verification issue yet? I have not heard anything for two weeks and have uploaded my documents a couple of times now with no response and no indication of anything having happened or not happened.

Is there any hope for me being able to teach Fusion again?

Hi @Robin.SeverinsenYBDEP,

Your school should now appear as both secondary and post-secondary.

My name is Maksym. I am having some problems with the access to the educational version. For 2 weeks I am trying to receive the licence. When I am logging in there appears a message that everything is good and I can download the product. But in a while there is "Your eligibility to use Autodesk products is undergoing standard export screening. You can visit our Export Compliance page or contact us for more information."  Please help me

I installed a 2019 version of Inventor and made an AutoDesk account got verified and all that. However, when I try to open Inventor it says I need to purchase a version or get a free trial. Why doesn't it recognize that I have access? I got the email confirming I got educational access. What should I do?

Hi @orrellij,

The Autodesk Education Plan provides access to the current version plus the next three versions; as of writing, this would be 2023 (current), 2022, 2021 and 2020. 2019 is outside of this version so I would recommend installing a newer version.

I hope this helps 🙂

Hi @carmenindus,

The start and graduation dates aren't checked during verification, so if you set the dates closer to the current date you should be able to complete verification. Our education team is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.

Thank you for your patience.

This whole system of downloading student software is complete TRASH. Autodesk should be ashamed of how terribly organized this process is. 0/10 would not recommend
