Activation Not Working?

I'm a teacher that has a 125 seat license for Inventor 2024. Autodesk says my license expires in December of 2024

bgill073_0-1711115957288.png

But when my students try to open Inventor a dialogue box pops up and gives the option to "Run" or "Activate". We have been selecting "Activate" for the past 3 days, and we are getting the same dialogue box today.

And when I look at my contract, I am told that my license has expired.

So, to clarify what I'm needing help with...what do I need to do to get the software activated?

Thank you,

Hi @bgill073,

Named user licenses have moved away from serial numbers - You can assign access from the user management tab in https://manage.autodesk.com/products.

I've checked your account and I can see an expired Inventor Professional 2021 license, which is likely the one the lower image, but I also see 125 Inventor seats available to you that Expire in December.

When activating, click the Sign in with your AutodeskID to activate you license and the licenses assigned to your students Autodesk Accounts. If you don't see the 'let's get started' screen, please follow these steps to reset the license on the computer,

I hope this helps, please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions,

Thank you for the advice. I will find out today when my students try to login whether this works. Do students all now have to be added as users for them to be able to access Inventor? I've never had to do that in the past.

Hi @bgill073,

Yes, for named user licenses, all students need to be added and assigned a license. Alternatively, there are institutional licenses available where you need more than 125 users, which still rely on serial numbers or Network Licensing.

For Educator accounts, you can have either named user licenses (so students can use the software outside of school) or institutional licenses,

I hope this helps,

Okay, so I uploaded a CSV file with all of my students' names and emails. They received an email inviting them to accept the invitation. They accepted the invitation, and it shows that they have been "verified" when I look them up on my Autodesk "user management by user". But when the students try to log in to use the Inventor, it tells them that it is expired. I click "Activate" again, and it of course the students still can't access it.

I can't find any logical all-in-one place that tells me what I'm supposed to do to activate this crazy software.  I appreciate the link provided above, and it helped, but even when I follow that link I can't find any instructions on what I'm supposed to do to give these students access.

Hi @bgill073,

What I believe to be happening is that software is picking up the old license as your account and licenses all look to be fine, and your students have the licenses assigned to their accounts.

I would recommend resetting the license by following the instructions here. This will ensure a clean start and that the newest license is picked up.

I hope this helps,

No, the students are still not able to access the software. I tried resetting the software license with the tool, and that seems to have not done the job either.

Hi @bgill073,

Are all students impacted or only a select few? I would also like to double-check that your students are logging in with their AutodeskIDs on the Let's Get Started window.

Can you share a screenshot of the error message being shown?

It's all students and me. I can use Inventor on my laptop, but when I try to use the student computers in the classroom it won't let me on Inventor.

I will take a screenshot and post it here when I am in the classroom.

Thanks,

Okay, we got some of the students' logged in and Autodesk is working. In order to access the "login" the students had to close and open a dialogue box several times. Then the image below popped up and let some of them log in and use Inventor.

bgill073_0-1713197353495.png

But some students got this box below when they attempted to sign in.

bgill073_1-1713198070194.png

They have internet connectivity as shown below.

bgill073_2-1713198104935.png

I've checked to verify that they are "verified" in my user group.

Hi @bgill073,

Are students subject to any additional web filtering? We have a list of URLs that need to allowed for the licensing service to work here.

Another avenue to explore would be the possibility for corruption in either the identity service or EdgeWebView 2 components. I'd recommending following the steps in this article, which also includes other potential solutions for this issue.

Please let me know how you get on opr if you have any additional questions.

I still have about 8 students that aren't able to access the software.

Also, some students are now getting a message  that Inventor "session has expired" and it kicks them off of the software and makes them log back in to use the software. It is doing this every few minutes.
