Use Two Versions of Eagle on the Same Box

Greetings,

Is it possible to install two different versions of eagle on the same computer? I would like to keep Eagle 5 running while trying out Eagle 9.

Thanks

Absolutely you can. EAGLE by default installs into a version specific directory and does not overwrite earlier installs.

One thing to bear in mind if you are familiar with how EAGLE used to be is the settings file are no longer in a shared eagle.rc file and are version specific although it does copy them forward for each new version you install. Still a pain though and a backwards step in my opinion.

The other thing, before you do anything else in EAGLE 9, as you are an existing v5 user go to Options->Set...->Misc and uncheck "Group command default on" otherwise you will be eternally frustrated. Unchecking this option restores sensible operation.

Best Regards,

Rachael

Thank You rackaelATWT4!

It looks like it's working so far. One thing to watch out for is overwriting existing libraries when you install multiple versions.

Yes, you need to be careful about your libraries if you have V5.12 (or earlier) and V6 (or later) on the same PC, because the file formats all changed. Anything you save in the later version becomes garbage as far as the earlier version is concerned (although the transition is the other way for a human!)
