Smash or Reposition attributes tool issue

Hi everybody! Hope you're doing well!

I just passed to Eagle V9.3.1 Premium (before I was on 7.7.0) and I had issue with the "Reposition Attributes or Smash" tool.
For jumper pins, I usually use a part name JPx (JP1 for example) and for the jumper who should be goes on the jumper pins I use JPX.Y (J1.1 for example)
Like this in the BOM, I know that the kind of jumper I need and where it should go... (In this example on JP1)

So the issue is that in EAGLE V9.3.1, the name of my jumper JP1.1, no problem
The issue appears when I tried to smash (reposition attributes) it.
See the picture below who explain the issue....
I can press OK and the position of NAME attribute is out of range.

I tried to rename the jumper to JP1-1 or JP1*1. But it seems not accept other character as letter or number.

If someone has already this issue or a trick to get around the problem

Hello,

Could you share a quick video showing exactly what you are doing and maybe a very simple board with the offending component to test with? I thought I understood what you were saying wasn't working, but having just tested out on my machine I can't find any issues at all with this....

FYI, in the latest few versions of EAGLE the SMASH tool is history. It is still there, presumably to prevent issues with scripts which use it, but everything is smashed by default now.

Best Regards,

Hello Rachel,

Thank you to took time to test it.

Unfortunately, I haven't nothing to record a small video for the moment.

But in attachment you can find a simple schematic where the issue appears.

The parts comes from a library made under V7, I don't know if it's relevant.
Anyway;
If I do a "Smash J3.1" or a "REPOSITION J3.1" in command line, it works.
If I do a "Smash J2.1" or a "REPOSITION J2.1" in command line, it crashes.

And apparently the name isn't an issue, you right!
Maybe it's because the J2.1 hasn't footprint...

Hi Jean-Louis,

I've downloaded and tested with your file and on both J3.1 and J2.1 with both SMASH and REPOSITION from the command line and I do not have any issues. I am running on 9.3.2 on macOS so maybe this is a Windows (??) specific thing. Hopefully somebody else will be able to look at your file and reproduce your issue.

Best Regards,

Hi Rachel,

First thanks to have checked if it works or not...

To be sure that it isn't a version issue, I updated EAGLE to version 9.3.2 and it crashes again...

So as you mentioned, the only difference "apparently" between you and me is I'm on Windows and you on macOS.

If someone on Windows 10 could test, it would be perfect...

Best Regards,

Jean-Louis
