CPL File

I'm trying to have some circuit boards printed, and the company I sent the drawings to requested CPL (placement data) files. I'm trying to have them print and populate the circuit boards with the required components. The xxx.cpl file supposedly provides them with the XY coordinates and orientation for every component relative to some origin. The file in Eagle could be called something other than xxx.CPL, and CPL could just be a file that they feed their robots to place the components. Does Eagle create any sort of file that provides that information though? Something that will provide my vendor with the information where each component is placed (dimensions from an origin sounds like)?
Thank you very much.

Hello,

From the board editor run File->Export->Mount SMD. This will generate two files giving the X, Y and rotation for the top and bottom side of the board. Hopefully this should be in a format useful to your assembly house to use. I've sent this out before and had no issues getting the parts placed with the vendor I used.

Best Regards,

Rachael

Eagle creates two files when you do this...mnt and mnb. JLCPCB do not accept these files as they want xls. How do you convert them?

If you're using JLCPCB they have a whole list of instructions on their website for how to do it. They also have a custom ULP that you could try.

This ULP from JLCPCB can't generate THT  component in CLP file 😞

Hi @pablo.gaviriaL3JNK,

I hope you're doing well. You can use the the mount-smd-tht.ulp to generate a pick and place file that includes through hole components.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
