Microsemi FPGA Libraries

Has anyone made any libraries for Microsemi FPGAs? I am specifically looking for the ProASIC3 FPGA parts in Eagle. I have access to Altium at work but my colleague prefers Eagle. I was hoping we don't have to create the 208 pin part from scratch which is a lot of work.

Hello @julien.pasquier,

I hope you're doing well. How big is this library? Currently, as a library nears 3MB the server times out unable to convert it into a managed library we should be releasing a fix shortly to correct this short coming.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

No, it doesn't exist I was told. I switched to use Altium as it has the ProASIC3 libraries ready to use.

Hi @Anonymous,

I don't know what happened with the above message, it wasn't intended for you. The part you are requesting isn't available in the default library of EAGLE. With that said, if you can obtain the BSDL file for that component then you can make it in EAGLE in a few minutes using the make-device-symbol-package-bsdl.ulp that comes with EAGLE. Additionally, we'll be release a footprint generator soon that will make complex bga packages a breeze.

Maybe it's too late for this project, but hopefully in the future you will consider giving EAGLE another try.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Creating a 208-pin QFP part isn't a lot of work. I've created much larger BGA parts and they don't take too much time once you know how to create parts properly. I've written a tutorial series on library part creation in EAGLE over on element14. I'd advise you to check it out if you need to create parts in future.

Also, from what Jorge is saying it looks like there are some big advances coming in the tools EAGLE provides for creating parts so this should get even easier in future.

I'm actually quite surprised you consider changing to an alternative ECAD tool less of a daunting task than creating a single library part. I suspect if you continue with Altium you'll end up in the same situation somewhere down the line where they don't have a part you need. What will you do then?
