Fusion 360 replacing Eagle in future

Hi,

I heard some part of podcast with Matt Berggren where he talked about his work on Fusion 360 (electronic part of Fusion). Eagle updates seems to be stopped and there are only necessary ones. So I would like to ask if there are any steps toward switching from Eagle to Fusion. I understand, that it would be reasonable step from Autodesk.

Best regards, Vojta

Hi @alexA3RDM,

I hope I'm understanding you correctly, if not please clarify. Here's what I understand,
You have a $100/yr EAGLE Standard and a Fusion Startup. If that is correct then what I'm going to write will hold.

Keep that $100/year Standard going, once the change fully takes effect you'll get Fusion commercial thrown in for free. Whenever you need to go Premium, just pay for the month( the two entitlements will live side by side the standard and the premium). Once the month is over the Premium will drop off and the Standard will take over.

The key point to preserve the grandfather is that the Standard isn't interrupted, if it is then you start over.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Oh god. Now THERE'S an interesting question.

F360 doesn't YET contain any of the E-CAD stuff, other than the basic currently-supported Eagle<>F360 functionality around pushing components around PCBs and changing outlines and such. The full integration is under heavy development, and preview videos are floating around, but it's not customer facing yet.

If you buy F360 right now hoping to get eagle, you SHOULD be able to find the download in https://manage.autodesk.com/ under product downloads, but honestly, I have no idea - Being grandfathered, I have a line item there for "Fusion 360 with Eagle Standard" which has the Eagle downloads behind it. But the F360 line item is obviously for F360, so it's totally possible that Eagle downloads are currently broken for new subscribers.

Maybe you could share a screenshot of what that dashboard looks like for you? Here's mine:

Not quite, but I think I follow and it applies regardless. Currently I have Fusion360 startup and Eagle Standard - $15/mo (monthly term).

So I think this still applies - I can simply ALSO subscribe for a 1-mo term of F360 (non-auto-renew), and Eagle will simply take the Premium entitlement for that month?

So I'm effectively double-entitling Fusion, but for the same price as I'd previously been month-by-month upgrading Eagle to Premium?

THAT certainly sounds workable! As long as the two aren't mutually exclusive, that sounds ideal!

@jorge_garcia What about Eagle Premium and getting the full F360 license. This is a pretty hefty part of my business, so I would really like to know what’s going.

I just looked at my licensed products (I have an Eagle Standard subscription) and I now see Fusion 360 with Eagle Standard as a download.

@infinite.machinery I checked my subscriptions and F360 with Eagle Premium is there. That renews on the 28th of this month. What about the $300 I spent in December for a year of F360?

Seems like Autodesk would owe you a pro-rated amount or an extension of a subscription.

If my interpretation of the licensing terms is correct, you should be able to cancel your Eagle Premium entitlement, yet still have access to Eagle pursuant to the $310/yr subscription.

Kinda the exact opposite of what Jorge is suggesting I do, which is ADD a Fusion360 entitlement temporarily as a way to upgrade myself to Eagle Premium on a month by month basis, where I'll still have access to Fusion from my $15/mo grandfathered Eagle Standard sub.

Hi @craigOrionTech,

I think you would have to talk to sales to come to a solution on that. That's something that I wouldn't have a ready-made answer for. On manage.autodesk.com make a ticket and I'm sure it would be routed to the right person.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

😞 I was just about to jump from a standard monthly to yearly as this month was about to expire...

Is there a way to change from monthly to yearly, while still remaining grandfathered?

Pretty annoying, since the only time we really heard about this was the email this morning, by which time it was definitely too late to change account details.

Well, I am glad I got Fusion as late christmas present on top of my Eagle standard! Thank you Autodesk, nice move.

I look forward to a better integration of both.

Is there a roadmap for integration? Or will they remain separate applications for the foreseeable future?

I have an EAGLE standard license does this mean I can now get Fusion 360 for free? If so, how do I download this free version of Fusion 360?

If I have a F360 startup license when will the Eagle entitlement show up? Is there still the Standard/Pro distinction still? I don't see a way to buy Pro.

From this forum, go to the account menu

Then select your products from your account. You should see Fusion 360 with Eagle Std listed.

@jorge_garcia I've just tried what you suggested by adding the $60/1mo Fusion 360 subscription to my account. After a few minutes that now shows "processed" in my order history, but Eagle still pulls a "Standard" license, even after a few sign out/restart cycles. This is officially now getting in the way of work today 😕

EDIT: I now see "Fusion 360 with Eagle Stndr" in User Management>By Product, and also "Fusion 360" in Classic User Management, where I see that I can explicitly assign or unassign "EAGLE - Premium"

But even explicitly assigning the latter to my user, and UNASSIGNING the former, I can only pull an "EAGLE Standard" license in eagle itself. Indeed, unassigning both, I still have an EAGLE Standard license, according to EAGLE (including after logout/login). EDIT again: After a few minutes of both licenses unassigned to my user, a logout/login cycle left EAGLE with a "Free noncommercial" license. So I just assigned the F360 + Premium seat, and I guess we'll see how long it takes for that to become available.

Also: This is not encouraging...

Final update - after a bunch of manual license juggling, ~half an hour after I had successfully de-licensed Eagle, I now have a Premium license applied. Not sure if it would have happened "automatically" as suggested if I'd simply waited patiently from the get-go.

I'd sure love to see a backend architecture improvement such that licensing immediately reflects entitlement assignment.

So anyone who gets Fusion 360 student, hobbyist or subscriber, will get Eagle for free as premium?

I can see standart version of Eagle will not exist anymore for new users, but i wonder if Free and premium distinction still exist.

This would be a big disappointment for some users being limited to 80cm2 board when MCAD is fully supported.

As I understand it, the free version of Eagle for personal/non-profit use will come with Eagle's current free version, and a paid license of Fusion will come with Eagle Premium. My guess is the Startup license for Fusion will also come with Eagle Premium, though I seem to have lost my startup-y-ness totally in this shuffle, so maybe not.

For what it's worth, I imagine the concept of Eagle Free/Standard/Premium will morph very substantially when Eagle finds it's way inside Fusion, which is almost certainly coming quite soon.

I hope these transition periods will not hurt Fusion 360/ Eagle industrial share. Well maybe not for fusion 360 for sure but i have some doubt about Eagle.
