Hi,
I have bought an "Eagle Non Commercial Maker License".
I would like to know, if and how this type of license will be continued!?
best regards

Continue using your Make License for your current version of EAGLE. If you wish to use EAGLE v8, consider investing on the EAGLE Standard Edition which is the option that closest matches the Maker License, this subscription provides you a board size limitation of 160cm^2.

Ed
Yeah going to run into problems here as well. I bought a licensed 7.5 version. It's paid for and done, I can't goto a subscription based program. This is also why I had to drop Autocad. Smaller guys and hobbyist will get left behind, and will probably have to start going back to using ExpressPCB

You can continue using your EAGLE Maker License for EAGLE v7.7, it will not work on v8. Autodesk EAGLE v8 requires an active subscription.
With an active Autodesk account you can use the Free version of EAGLE v8, which allows a maximum board size of 80cm^2.
Thank again for you post.

Hi Talon2000,
I'm really interested in knowing your issue with the subscription model. Is it pricing or is it ideological? This can help us guide pricing options in the future.

Best Regards,
a) it's awfully expensive
b) it ties you to the internet
c) businesswise NOT flexible
and a lot of other things but I'm fed up with writing that, been there, done that. Search for the forums and discussions when Farnell bought Eagle and wanted to do the same. I've already installed a schedule to move our PCB CAD design to other programs. Why should I spend my time and money when alternatives become easier and cheaper, certainly long term. Why should I 'invest' in Eagle when it becomes very expensive and ties you down while I can also invest time/money in an acceptable (free) alternative.
Basically: why is your product beter (price, easy of use, hassle,...) than an alternative? Switching to f.i. KiCad takes me about 2 weeks work. That costs me the same as 1 year Eagle. So why should I?
When you have people like me that aren't fast in designing their builds, like me. It may take me 6 months or longer to get 1 complete design done. Working on it in my spare time a few hours here and there. So when you goto a monthly subscription base the cost per hour use is way to high.
If the cost of the software out weighs it's usefulness then it's no longer a bargain.
Same way with AutoCad. When I could no longer afford to buy it, or justify the new subscription method it then became obsolete to me. I now use Draftsight.
But Autodesk isn't the only one doing this. I use photoshop, they recently went to a subscription method. They no longer support the software that I paid for, and want me to use the subscription method. Saving my work on the cloud. So guess what I don't use anymore?
You know what other subscriptions I don't get? TV.
This subscription method works for those that use the program 16 hours a day, and produce lot's of production board, and it works for Autodesk since they get a monthly income.
Right now, all I see is that the libraries are gone, ULP is gone which is leading me to believe the good software that I use is going to be useless in short order unless I get a subscription.
That just seems bloody unfair. If I knew 8 months ago that €140 would be wasted now, I would not have bothered. Well, I was looking forward to your new router, but it seems like I will try to learn KiCAD instead... 😞
After all, the license was labeled "Perpetual"...

Hi Talon2000,
The ULPs and Libraries are not gone, the site is still being worked on. Those should be up in short order once we finish cleaning up the site. Give it a few days.
I understand your position on subscriptions in general so I don't think there is much I can say here that will change your mind. However, if after exploring some alternatives you decide to give EAGLE another shot, we'll be here to help.
Thank you for your honesty and your candidness, we appreciate it.

a) it's awfully expensive
$15.00/month for standard and $65.00/month for premium doesn't seem very expensive to me, especially if I make my living off of EAGLE, however you know your constraints and budget better than anyone.
b) it ties you to the internet
Not 100% true, remember that you have a 14 day heartbeat so you can be offline for 14 days without issue.
c) businesswise NOT flexible
I don't understand how this is the case, you have full control over your subscription. You can cancel whenever you want and pick it right up again whenever you need it. If you don't have electronics work for a month or 2 you don't pay. How is that not flexible?
Basically: why is your product beter (price, easy of use, hassle,...) than an alternative? Switching to f.i. KiCad takes me about 2 weeks work. That costs me the same as 1 year Eagle. So why should I?
There is a lot the could be written here, but the reality is that once you try to make the switch you'll probably discover these things on your own. EAGLE has a lot to offer with all of the new features that have been added to it in just 3 months. It's likely that within the year EAGLE will be in a totally different league as far as capability and support. I would encourage you to try to look past this one thing and see if all of the new features are worth it you. If they are not now, then perhaps soon they will be.
Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
Best Regards,
Let's see $65 a month, 6 months to design 1 board. $390 and I haven't even sent it to the board house to make the board. So another $250 to make my board. I'm now out $640 for a board for my own projects. I don't make money at this. But thanks for excluding hobbyist who would like to use a decent tool.
Please do not patronise me or tell me what I should consider 'a lot'. Again: we have 3 (three) licenses, thinking about going to 5 (five). I spend half a million on components yearly. If I would think 'oh it's not that much' half would become 3/4 easily. At a yearly profit of 20.000 a yearly 1500 subscription is a lot.
I also have Indesign and Photoshop. Not the cloud thing, same reason. We use that stuff just for a few moments each week. Let's say 2 hours a week. So it's constantly a little bit. It's impossible to have a subscription for 'just 2 months' and then 10 months nothing. Design doesn't work like that.
You clearly have no clue how small design teams and companies work.

No patronising intended, I apologize

Our subscription is 500/yr or 65/month not 1500.

We do have customers who only sporadically work with EAGLE, however thank you for making it clear that is not your situation.
Is the 545 EUR a site license or person license? I assume person so I need 3: 1635 EUR a year.
Well...let's assume, that I do 12 designs a year for pure private use with very little piece count.
Typically I pay ~15$ for ten prototype boards.
Continuing with Eagle would double the price 😞
I think there are a lot users like me...so You should think if the pricing is really fair!?
At last I am afraid you will loose a lot users migrating to KiCad without a cheap and fair low budget license.
best regards
Michael
I'm a hobbyist, I don't make any money from the designs I make. But I currently have a Pro license because we nowadays I can get cheap 4 and even 6 layers board made by proto services. I also do designs larger than 160 cm^2. I don't use it all the time, but it's more like a couple days per month but that means I'd still need the full license all the time. With the current pricing model over the last 5 years the average cost I was paying for the full pro version was 16 EUR per month ... with the new one, we're _WAY_ above that.

Best Regards,
For one, the current offerings are too limited - the cheapest option being too short on features, requiring users to go the $500/year lane just to do 4 layers. The subscription route would be way more digestible if you could at least have 4 or preferably 6 signal layers at the $100/year option. I'd think it should be obvious that there's a lot of people needing more than 2 layers, but will never go anywhere near 16 layers.
