2019 Macbook Pro (Intel i9 + 32GB memory)
MacOS 11.6.8 Big Sur
EAGLE 9.6.2
Hello,
Looking through the forums, lag in EAGLE's layout editor after 7.X versions seems to be nothing new (I've been using 7.7 for a long time and only recently upgraded to 9.6.2). So far my experience has been positive, but I recently discovered a challenging scenario. I only experience lag in the layout editor when I use my macbook pro's display. Normally, I use to external monitors, and experience no lag in the editor at all, but while traveling recently (without my monitors) I was frustrated to find that there was suddenly lag in my workflow.
I've done a few tests to better understand this bug, and I've found the following:
- Complexity of the design does not matter (2 layer layout with 1 component is still lagging)
- Lag only occurs on the macbook pro's built-in display (I've tested connecting only one monitor and leaving the macbook pro open; lag when the EAGLE layout window is on the macbook pro's display, and then as soon as I drag that same window to the external monitor, no lag at all)
- Turning off live DRC and board shape detection make no difference (same lag feel with these turned off)
Let me know if there's anything else I can try or details I can give to help the EAGLE team better understand this bug. Luckily, I mostly use EAGLE with my external displays, but this is very frustrating when I'm traveling.
