Hello, is there not a 32-bit version of Eagle available?

Couldn't find it anywhere on your site.

Hi Lasse.ilmonen,

At this time EAGLE is only available in 64 bit format.

Best Regards,

Why doesn't Autodesk provide a 32 bit version?

32 applications run on Win64, but not vice versa.

Do you expect many users really benefit from a 64 bit version?

Hi Oliver,

I hope you're doing well. The overwhelming majority ( I don't remember the exact number but something on the order of 95%+ across Windows, Linux, and Mac) of our downloads were for 64-bit machines so it was decided that it made sense to only support 64-bit.

With that said if it becomes a problem we will reconsider this.

Hi Jorge,

You have an info about 32-bit version here: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/System-requirements-for-...

"Since EAGLE version 7.3.0 we have a 32-bit and a 64-bit package."

That isn`t valid for version 8. This is misleading to the 32-bit PC users.

Will you correct this information for ver.8 - from ver.8 the 32-bit version is no more supported?

Hi elektrokadS6FLZ,

Greatly appreciate your participation on our forum and pointing out the link for this article.  I have submitted a request to update it.  This article was created shortly after EAGLE v7.3 was released early 2016, at that time we had 32-bit and 64-bit downloads available. All subsequent releases were only supporting the 64-bit version due to the heavy download rate as stated by Jorge earlier.

Best Regards,

Ed

Hi Ed,

Thank you for your answer.

you wrote:

This is interesting, because until version 7.7. (last ver. 7), released in early october 2016, was available also 32-bit version. Only from ver 8 is it not supported.

Fine, for new release EAGLE, need new PC as well?

As long as the operation systems are supported for 32-bit, the applications why not?

Hmh, that's sad. I've using Eagle many years, and I thought I'd check out if the new version is worth paying the annual licence fee.

But now i can't even do that. I guess I'll just have to use my old version as long as I can, and learn some other software during that.

And yes, it's a pain to move away from Eagle, but honestly your pricing is too expensive for small businesses.

At least get some middle option there, I mean you can't do much with 2 layers, but how ofter do you need 16 layers, that's ridiculous that those are the only options. I'd be happy with a version which has 6 layers.

Hi Laamane,

I hope this is not the begin of Eagle's funeral.

Flexera licencing in ver. 7.0.0 was also unpopular.

This is from update information ver. 7.1.0:

"Switched back to former licensing: Flexera licensing has been taken out and EAGLE licensing now works like before version 7.0 again."

Some similar was in release of ver 6.0.0.

But now here is a similar one. With ver 8, you can work only online - also with freeware. Big brother is listening what you do.

Yes, I hate the subscription model and also that I'm tied with the internet connection(ok, there's the 14 days heartbeat),

but personally I would love to see Autocad add another option like 45euros/month, 8-layer and say 500cm2 option.

I think I would bend for it...even I'd have to get a new computer to install 64-bit software... 😉

Well, I guess that exactly this is. So by-by from me too.

I use win XP 32 bit, since I need a stable computer. All of my programs are working faster than the equivalents from win7 or 10 on colleagues PC, so there is no reason to upgrade. If I will receive a better computer, I will still use XP (cloned image from the present PC) because I have no issue with it.

Autodesk started already with left foot with Eagle, with invalid "unsubscribe" link in the "New Eagle email anouncement". There are also invalid links in the description of the "new features" on the website. Until now, autodesk is way under the professionalism of the original Cadsoft .

Hi Laamane,

I hope you're doing well. Just wanted to clarify that the Standard does 4 layers not 2 that was changed recently and our next update will reflect this. Our next update is due around the end of the week.

Maybe that makes a difference for you.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hello Jorge!

Well, that would be useful for some of my projects. There isn't any info on that on your website?

I must admit, most of my work in based on 4-layer boards, so I think that would be great.

If I take the monthly payment option, is it possible to change it to premium for one month during the year, and then go back to standard?

I was thinking that I could do ok with the standard option, and change it to premium when I have to use more layers/need a bigger board.

Of course after finding a 64-bit computer first... 😄

Hi Jorge,

Just made the same mistake. Downloaded the 64 version of Eagle to find out my windows refuses to run it.

I'm likely to be part of this 95% of downloads which is now stuck. Please, I would appreciate if a 32 bit version could made available.

Kind regards,

Christian

Hi Peter,

I hope you're doing well. You can download a 32-bit version of 7.7(the last release under the old licensing model). From here:

http://web.cadsoft.de/ftp/eagle/program/7.7/eagle-win64-7.7.0.exe
http://web.cadsoft.de/ftp/eagle/program/7.7/eagle-win32-7.7.0.exe
http://web.cadsoft.de/ftp/eagle/program/7.7/eagle-mac64-7.7.0.zip
http://web.cadsoft.de/ftp/eagle/program/7.7/eagle-lin64-7.7.0.run
http://web.cadsoft.de/ftp/eagle/program/7.7/eagle-lin32-7.7.0.run

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I agree. If you do more than 6 layers design, for sure Eagle is not an option.

Hi Jeroge,

This is very useful, thanks.

Is there any way to buy a professional license for eagle 7.7.0?

Yes I know it won't come with support etc. The thing is I am just learning how to do pcb design and for that the free (older) version works just fine. If ever I have to do a larger board or multiple layers I'd like to be able to grow into that but I can't afford to do a subscription for that because I'm not likely to be earning from my hobbyist designs.

In my scenario, it's much easier to save + pay for something once and live with the limitations. Not to mention I can run this on hardware that can only run Mac OS 10.9 (8.x requires 10.10).

Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you're doing well. At this time we can no longer sell V7.7 of EAGLE, we are only setup to sell the subscriptions of Autodesk EAGLE.

I would still say to try installing V8 on your Mac, I have a feeling that it would still work. When we write the versions of the MAC os in the requirements, what we really say is that those are the versions that are OFFICIALLY supported. It doesn't mean that EAGLE can't work on an older(newer) version, just that in those scenarios we don't make any guarantees of it functioning.

I hope that clears up your question.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi @jorge_garcia

I did try Eagle 8, the installer works but because of how it's compiled the actual app won't launch. However, even if it did I'm really not interested in the new subscription based licensing.

Anyway, thanks for your response, it's unfortunate that I can't obtain 7.7, let me see what my options are going forward.
