Since my files are not presently on a server I can reach from home, I wanted to copy them to a thumb drive.
But I get this message:
"The file ... has properties that can't be copied to the new location."
I get this message for .sch, .brd, .dxf, .epf files.
Is there a way to copy said files?

Whether you need to worry about that depends on how you're copying and what is giving the error. It may be, depending on your OS, that the files have access limited to certain users, which is a facility that isn't supported by the Microsoft FAT file system most commonly used on USB sticks. If that's the problem then you don't really care - it's the files themselves you want, not the "properties" associated with them.

It will not change your files, it is caused more or less by what one-of-the-robs said. Windows usually uses NTFS iirc and usb drive will use FAT32 file system. FAT32 does not support these additional file properties, so they get stripped out when you copy them to the usb drive. The file itself will be unchanged.
