Hi, I edited a footprints pads from round to elongated, and saved it with a new name.
to
Then I attempted to delete old part off PCB and could not find any additional part (eg. my edit),
but got a popup question is it ok to update part. So I did. I assume this means footprint is not
the parts name, rather its just the footprint name. So no additional part was created in library,
just that the existing part was updated with the new footprint.
But old footprint still showing on PCB.
When I click on part on PCB and look at properties, footprint, the new footprint pops up. When I
close that dialog the old footprint still showing on PCB (its got the round pads).
Not sure as a newbie how to rectify.

Have you read the manual?
You've probably forgotten to update libraries. And the mention of deleting the old part suggests you haven't read the bits about package options or the replace command.
I found solution. In PCB view, right click component, and there is a replace
menu item works like a charm. I just picked same part again (as its footprint
now changed) and it updated to the new footprint.
Thanks for reply.

first, you have to add the new library to the EAGLES software. Then go back to the schematic and click on update footprints to change from the old footprint to the edited one and finally download and save the netlist, and on going back to the PCB layout, update the netlist afresh and the new netlist will update your new footprint.
also, consult the user manual given by EAGLES software.
