Bug in library: Device view pins

Hi,

I'm reporting a quick bug in Eagle Library for a Device.

Affects versions 9.6.1 as well as earlier.

If one has a part with multiple packages, clicking on the other packages will not renumber the pins to reflect the mapping while in device view.

Hi @Anonymous,

Could you provide an example file to test this?

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,

Hi,

The problem is not specific to a particular library.

To reproduce, I just tried:
create a new library->Add Device->Import->74xx-us->74*00->OK

You will then be taken to the "Device View".

At this point, you will see this device has three different packages: "DIL14", "LCC20" and "SO14".

The pin numbers on the screen are most definitely not accurate for the LCC20 version, when this variant is clicked on.

Basically, it is failing to update the pin numbers shows when a different package is selected.

I distinctly remember this working at one point.

Hi,

This bug is still present in 9.6.2 -- Pin numbers are not refreshing on the symbol shown when selecting a different package-variant from the device view within a library.

What is interesting is that it can be forced to refresh if one right-clicks on a package-variant and renames it.

It is only then that the graphical representation which shows the pin numbers on the symbol can be relied upon as being accurate.

This should be possible to trigger simply by clicking on a different "package/variant" pair in the right pane (and not require a rename), at which point the pin numbers should update in the graphical view.

This used to work in classic Eagle (pre-acquisition), and is a fairly serious problem -- one could easily assume the pin numbers they are seeing are accurate for a given package variant when this is not the case.

Obviously, this does not matter if the numbers are exactly the same for two different package variants.

Who can I reach out to about this?

Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you're doing well. Thanks for continuing to followup on this thread. It slipped through the cracks and that's my fault. I've been able to reproduce it and I created a video and defect report for this so we should see some movement on it shortly.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Thank you very much! I really appreciate it.

BTW, I just discovered another place in which the same issue occurs: The "Table of Contents" view.

If you are in the "Table of contents" view (book icon/main library view) where you have the four columns (Device, Footprint, 3d package, and Symbol), if you click once on any particular device in the first column, all the way to the right you'll have a dual-view of the symbol with the physical package to the right of it.

Provided it is a small symbol (or you stretch the pane to get more detail), the pins will show numbered.

Again, same issue as before: (in the bottom-right) you can select which package/variant, and upon doing so, the symbol view does not update either.

Same basic issue, just from the main library screen.

To reproduce:

create a new library->Add Device->Import->74xx-us->74*00->OK

Go to the "table of contents view", then in the bottom-right, select LCC20, and you'll see the pins fail to update.

Here the rename trick does not work, as it is not possible to rename from this screen, but the same as before, refresh does not happen.

Peter
