Text placed on PCB board design is boxed and has lines across it?

Hi All,

Using Eagle 9.6.2 Education version.

Go to place text and once clicked onto the board it is boxed in and has diagonal lines across it. After that it seems impossible to select it or get any kind of right click menu on it. Just the 'ping' sound of incorrect function.

Text with grid over it?Text with grid over it?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

That hatched area is probably a design rule violation marker. Run the DRC tool to see what error it is.

This should not affect selection of anything. Are you sure you're clicking on the text anchor, not somewhere else? The ping is most commonly because you're trying to apply a function to (what Eagle regards as) the middle of nowhere.

Even when I start a new project I get the same thing. It's a default installation of Eagle and I've changed no rules.

I saw another post on this site talking about the same thing and the author says he solved the problem by changing the status to exploded or unexploded. I have no idea where that function even is.

Also, definitely once this text is placed it will not let me select it again. But does allow me to continue pasting it everywhere else.

That changes nothing. It's still most likely a DRC error. Do as I asked and check.

He probably wasn't talking about the same thing at all, but because you "have no idea" what he meant, you just assume it's the same. I'm constantly amazed how often somebody here posts "I have exactly the same problem" when they really have a completely different and totally unrelated problem!

Definitely? Can you be 100% sure that you, a relatively new user of a tool whose quirks you haven't even started to explore, have exhaustively covered every possible case, without even trying the suggestions that a 20 year experienced user gave?

The two most common reasons for not being able to move or select an object are that you're clicking too far from its anchor (look for the little + mark) or that you've turned its layer or type off in the selection filter.

Apologies if my reply came across as curt. That wasn't my intention. I do appreciate your help. I did a DRC check and nothing related to text. I'll do some more fiddling and reading and see where I get.

When you say "nothing related to text" - I don't actually expect the DRC error to mention text. Did you check them all to see if any of them highlighted that box? I think it may be a "width" error you're looking for.

If you can upload the board file then we may be able to help you more.

I highlighted each DRC error and nothing related to the text.

I of course have no idea of whether you're still following this thread or found a solution to your problem but if you disable 'Check font' under the DRC rules Misc tab , the error goes away.
