Pin numbers missing in Device Editor and Schematic

Eagle Ver. 9.6.2

Seems to be a new issue because in the past I've created devices(and after selecting in the Symbol Editor Visible=Both) with no problem and the pin numbers appeared in my library in the Device View and on the Schematic. Now, I just get P$1, P$2, etc. I've looked at User Options and the Change function but I can't see anything that would cause the P$x value to appear as a pin number in the Part Editor and Schematic.

Pin names and pad numbers are selected according to the properties of the pin in the symbol editor. I think it's the "visible" parameter. If you have P$1 then you've not NAMEd the pins. You should do that.

All pins have been assigned names as usual. See screenshots. The names appear within the symbol but the pin number refuses to change from P$1 to 1 and so on.

Sorry, I think I mistyped. The P$1 is a default PAD name, so you haven't named the pads in your footprint.

That solved the problem. It's been months since I created parts and I forgot the P$x were not pins but pads and that the P$x names needed to be replaced with actual pin numbers since they could be added to the footprint randomly. Thanks very much.
