Icons in toolbar are active but not visible

Hello,

I'm using EAGLE 9.x.x.x (under Win 10 Pro 1803) and after an upgrade the images covering the icons in the toolbars no longer appear. Uninstalling and reinstalling EAGLE didn't solve the problem yet. Please note: The icons are active, but there is no corresponding picture/image loaded, so they all appear as gray boxes (also see the attached screen capture). The image folder is present and located in the EAGLE folder (C:\EAGLE 9.2.2.2\bin\icons).

After searching the forum and the web, I'm not sure why there's nobody else who has such a problem? Any help is highly appreciated! Thank you!

Kind regards,

Peter

Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you're doing well. This is really unusual. Go into the EAGLE installation directory > Bin > icons are there images there? If not then we would have to see what happened during the installation. If you do see the images then that would imply that the icons are not being picked up.

At that point one thing to try would be to delete the eaglerc file. First close EAGLE, it must be closed while doing this procedure. On windows you can find it here:
Windows: $HOME\AppData\Roaming\Eagle

Find the settings folder and inside you'll find a folder for 9.2.2 delete it and then try opening EAGLE again.

Let me know if that works for you.

Hi @jorge.garcia,

Thank you for your help! I followed all of your suggestions: I discovered the icons in the right folder and I deleted the eaglerc file, too. Unfortunately, after reopening EAGLE 9.2.2. the icons are still not being picked up. De-/Reinstalling the software also didn't solve the issue.

There are also other areas where icons do not appear (e.g. in the menu, if I choose "File" > "New" the small arrow on the right end of the frame is also missing).

Installing EAGLE 9.2.2 on another PC worked without any problem.

Kind regards,

Peter

Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you're doing well. I'm pinging the developers to take a look at this and see if there's is anyway to narrow this down.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi @Anonymous,

Are you working with a Dell machine? Do you have the Dell Backup and Recovery tool installed? If you do, please uninstall it since it is known to interfere with EAGLE's operation.

Also since 9.2.2 is not working, could you install 9.2.0 and see if the icons re-appear? You can install 9.2.0 from this link
http://eagle.autodesk.com/eagle/software-versions

If you have 9.2.1 available that would work also.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi @jorge_garcia,

Thank you again for helping me out while my PC is doing strange things. I am using an Intel NUC (i5-7260U) with Win10 Pro x64 (1803). Next to that there is only one "extra software" installed that is different to a standard version of Win10 Pro: Trend Micro Wory-Free Business Security Version 10.

I also followed your suggestion and deinstalled EAGLE 9.2.2 plus installed EAGLE 9.2.0 from the link you provided. Unfortunately the icons are still not visible when opening EAGLE 9.2.0.

Kind regards,

Peter

Hello Peter,

I hope you're doing well. Dang... Ok try this:
https://www.cyberlink.com/support/faq-content.do?id=10449

See if EAGLE reports any errors there on startup maybe we can get a clue that way. Just to confirm you installed EAGLE to it's default directory right? Anything special about that computer that may help narrow this down?

Hello Jorge,

I opened the "Event Viewer", opened "Windows Logs > Application" and sorted by "Level" (scrolled to see "Errors") as well as "Source" (scrolled to to see "Application Error"). I couldn' find any EAGLE related issue.

Sure, EAGLE has always been installed in the default directory.

Is there anything in the Windows 10 settings that has to be turned on or activated? Usually I deactivate all boxes in the settings menu of my system (Windows 10 Pro 1803), e.g. Activity Tracking, Position services, App-Diagnosis, and many more. That was also the case before I installed EAGLE (the "free" version, I'm now on "Premium") for the first time on my machine (and EAGLE worked perfectly back then). However, I'm open for all additional suggestions and for me it is not a huge deal to reinstall Windows 10 on my PC.

Kind regards,

Peter

Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you're doing well. At this point in time, I'd say to try to do the reinstall of Windows 10 and lets see if that fixes it. Let me know if that works for you.

Best Regards,
Jorge Garcia

Dear all,

I'n now a bit closer to a possible reason of the issuse that my icons in the toolbar are not visible anymore. After a new user signed in on my Win10-PC and opened Eagle (here: 9.2.0) everything was fine for him (all icons visible). When I signed in again, the icons were gone again.

My solution: I erased my user profile in Win10 and after recreating it the icons returned to my account.

However, I have never installed Eagle on a Mac and do not know if that helps there, too?

Peter

Hello:

I was able to fix this by right clicking in the top menu bar to turn it back on.
