Connection between EAGLE and FUSION360 sometimes lost

Hi there

I work with the newest Version of EAGLE (9.6) to create my boards. After that I transfer the 3D Data to FUSION by activating the FUSION360 Tab at the right to PUSH to FUSION360. this works fine but now I found myself disconnected from the FUSION360 model in EAGLE altough yesterday at end of work the connection was working really fine. Now I have the create a new link or pull from FUSION which ist not what I want. If I have nothing changed in FUSION there should not be a need the recreate a existing link and PULL the design from FUSION360.

I think the link should not be lost.

Regards, Harald

PS: At the moment this is not a problem because the FUSION part is not used in assemblies. but then one might run into problems.

Hi @HarrySatt,

I hope you're doing well. I assume you are still connecting through VPN. Here's something to try. The next time you go to work in EAGLE, open Fusion360 first. Does it require you to sign in again?

If then you try to go in EAGLE is the link still preserved? Some devs think that perhaps a token is becoming invalidated because of the dynamic IP address.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi @jorge.garcia ,

Here's what happened when I logged in this morning (I'm in Sydney, so "morning" is a relative term...):

  • opened Fusion 360, checked that I was online and could see the latest PCB version - all good
  • opened Eagle, it was initially offline
  • went online with Eagle, entered my credentials, logged in ok
  • clicked Fusion 360 button, saw message about "Retrieving Forge Hubs", then given the option to "Link to an existing Fusion 360 design", i.e. the link has been lost again
  • selected my Fusion PCB as the source to recreate the link
  • pushed to Fusion, checked there, the update was correct
  • quit Eagle (Fusion is still open)
  • opened Eagle.  Immediately online, no request to login again.  My IP address (LAN or external Internet) would not have changed in the few minutes between close and open.
  • checked the Fusion link - it was gone again!

So, it seems the leaving Fusion 360 open doesn't help, and I don't think it's related to a changing IP address.

Regards,

David

Hi @jorge_garcia

There is no problem with logging into FUSION360 or EAGLE. I do not have to log on everytime. I am in without delay but the link from my EAGLE design to FUSION is broken.

I check today if it is possible to keep the link at my workspace in the office. It is a dirct link and no need for VPN.

Let you know.

Regards, Harald

Hi @jorge_garcia

Today I tried my installation on my work desktop. At first I saw 4.6.0 is still installed, tried and I did not have any problem with the connection from EAGLE to FUSION360. Trying to synchronize told me the file in FUSION is up to date.  That is right, Then I installed EAGLE 4.6.1 and tried again. The link was broken and asks me for what I want to do. In fact useless because the design is synchronized and should tell me the same as with 4.6.0. But does not.

So It seems there is some more than only my VPN or internet connection.

Regards, Harald

I have a handfull of stubs in my Fusion designs due to this behavior. I've just got into the habit of creating new links when it goes wrong. My workflow is 80% work in Eagle for board design and 20% tweaking board profiles to fit enclosures and testing relationships between parts in Fusion 360. More push than Pull.

Hi, don't know if I can attach to this forum thread, but I just wanted to confirm that also I am plagued by this same problem. My Eagle version is latest, 9.6.1, and I have no VPN. Literally every time I close Eagle I have to re-do the steps to link PCB to an existing fusion design. Sporadically I don't manage to link to an exisiting fusion design and I have to create a new one. Thanks for the support you can give us to this problem,

Stefano

Hi @jorge_garcia

Seems I am not the only one suffering with this behaviour. I see it is really anoying and costs a lot of time to always create a new design because getting this into an existing assembly is not easy by the best.

I hope that there is a solution for this because as far as I can see at the moment this effect is not existend in EAGLE versions before 4.6. i am not sure but it seems.

regards, harald

It hasn’t happened to me since the last round of updates. I thought there was a thread 2 months ago on a similar bug.

Recently, I have been having this problem.

Every single time I open EAGLE, the link to the fusion design is broken. I have to relink to a new design.

Mac running 9.6.1 eagle, and latest fusion. OS X 10.14.6

Hi Guys,

Thanks for jumping on the thread, it's good to know that Harry is not alone. When the link breaks is it possible to relink to the old design by deleting the link and then re-establishing it to the existing file?

I'll ping the developers on this again.

I also can't push to fusion 360/ the cloud on two different accounts.  signing out and in hasn't helped.

For me it's not that you must delete the link: simply Eagle thinks there is no link to a Fusion design, so when I press the "Fusion 360" tab it asks me to "Choose Fusion 360 design type". I choose "Link to an existing Fusion 360 design", then "Next", then I choose the exisiting design I generated originally and usually I manage to re-link it ( see a screenshot of this morning ) and everything is fine.

Often but not always I must close Eagle and re-open one / two times before I am able to accomplish the flow described above.

I had to actually delete the link only a few times, when Eagle garbled the fusion 360 design, but I think this is linked to another issue I'm just focusing now in another thread of this forum. So I think this is not essential to the actual subject of this thread. It's a pity because just some days ago I was magnificating the cool integration between Eagle and Fusion 360 to a colleague of mine ... so please keep working on this! Thanks!

Hi @jorge_garcia

relinking is not possible because there is no link to break. In fact there is the standard dialog for deciding between existing design and creating a new one. But the decision to relink to an existing design results in the standard flow to select the design and after this the link is sometimes not existent. Only solution -> create a new one which is also only valid for a relativ short time, hence until restarting EAGLE or computer. it is not always the same.

Sorry

Regards, harald

As a note, I have the same issues since weeks / months.

- I loose quite often the connection / link to fusion.

- For every 2nd push I have to restart Eagle

- Sometime the 3D files in fusion loose all 3D package information, then I see only the PCB
Solution: save the eagle project as a new file and create a new fusion link. If I handle more than one PCB in a fusion project, than I have to move alle PCBs by hand.

- It is not possible anymore to render a PCB with silkscreen / canvas.

Definetly not a correct and useable workflow. thanks for answering. For two month I was told that I am the only one experiencing this behaviour. Now there seem that it is a very common problem.

@jorge_garcia Please work on this.

Hi @HarrySatt ,

Thank you for reporting this issue. We are working on it now.

There might be a temp work-around for this before the fix to be released.

Could you please try open the brd file in a text editor and find a tab called "fusionsync", then inside it, replace the value of linktopcb3d from "%12" to "true"

Please let me know if it works.

Regards,

Junyuan

Workaround works for me, now I don't loose the link if I close and re-open Eagle. The only minor thing: if

- I open Eagle, syncronize my board to fusion so everything is "in sync", then close Eagle

- I re-open Eagle without doing any changes

- now "Pull from fusion" and "Push to fusion" are both shown as "OUT OF SYNC"

if I push to fusion then everything goes fine, so for now it's a minor issue for me

Thanks for this workaround
