Due to the copy / paste lag experienced in Autocad 2017 creating rack elevations was taking far to long. I am using a Dell 7710 laptop with 64gb of mem with a nvidia video chip with 8gb of mem. But the lag in performance when it comes to copy and pasting is mind blowing slow. Something that I was oping would of been corrected in 2018 but there has been no mention of that as a fixed issue.
Anyways.......
This drawing has a few dynamic blocks that allow for creating rack elevations by using a linear move parameter in lieu of copy and pasting the device block into position in the rack.
1. Set the rack RU
2. Set the RU marker RU Height
4. Drag each device into position, prior to relocating devices you may wish to stretch the guide line out to a desired length. The guide line was provided to assist with creating native cad objects from an image or some other type of object or even a previous autocad object set for which you wish to transfer to a dynamic object set.
5. Explode the stacked enclosure block.
6. Adjust each device RU height using the device RU selector that becomes available once you explode the stacked enclosure block
7. Tweak any enclosure position that may be sitting at 1/2 RU positions
8. Edit each enclosures text >> if you are transferring previous native autocad objects to the dynamic objects provided here use Lee Mac's CopySwapTextV1-7.lsp to copy the existing text into the new enclosure attribute.
Hope this helps someone with this mundane task 🙂
