Text attribute in dynamic block not moving.

I created a dynamic block with several text attributes.  Everything moves correctly when the dynamic block is moved using the "MOVE" command.  But, a couple of the attributes do not move with the dynamic block if moved using the "grip".   The two that I'm having a problem with are labeled inside the block as NOTE_E_V and NOTE_I_H.  Otherwise the block is working as expected.  Could someone please help me identify what's wrong with these two text attributes?

This is a very common dynamic block problem —

THE CAUSE:

Attributes in dynamic blocks do not move

automatically with stretch or move actions

unless you specifically include them in the

action selection set.

This is the most missed step when creating

dynamic blocks with attributes.

THE FIX — Step by step:

Step 1: Open Block Editor

Type BEDIT → select your block → OK

Step 2: Find your Move or Stretch Action

In the Block Editor look for the action

symbol (lightning bolt icon) on your

canvas — double-click it to edit

Step 3: Check the Selection Set

When you created the Move or Stretch action

you selected objects to include.

Your ATTRIBUTE was probably NOT included

in this selection.

Step 4: Edit the Action Selection Set

• Double-click the action (lightning bolt)

• AutoCAD highlights currently selected objects

• Press Add Objects button or type A

• Click on your ATTRIBUTE text to add it

• Press Enter to confirm

• Click OK

Step 5: Test the block

Close Block Editor → Save

Insert the block → test the action

Attribute should now move with the geometry

ALTERNATIVE FIX — Delete and recreate action:

If editing the selection set does not work:

1. Delete the existing Move/Stretch action

2. Recreate it from scratch

3. When AutoCAD asks "Select objects for

action" — carefully select BOTH the

   geometry AND the attribute

4. Press Enter to confirm selection

5. Save and test

IMPORTANT RULE I follow:

When creating any dynamic block action —

always select ALL objects including:

✔ Geometry (lines, rectangles, arcs)

✔ Attributes (text attributes)

✔ Grip points if needed

If even one object is missed from the

selection set, it will not move with

the action.

SPECIAL CASE — Attribute moves but

text position resets:

This happens when attribute has a

fixed insertion point in the block

definition.

Fix:

• Open BEDIT

• Double-click the attribute →

  Attribute Editor opens

• Check "Lock Position" checkbox is

  UNTICKED

• If it is ticked — untick it → OK

• Save and test

ANOTHER COMMON CAUSE —

Attribute on wrong layer:

If your attribute is on a frozen or

locked layer inside the block editor,

actions will not affect it.

Fix:

• In BEDIT check your layer panel

• Make sure attribute layer is

  thawed and unlocked

• Move attribute to same layer as

  geometry if needed

VERIFICATION CHECKLIST:

Before saving your dynamic block always

check:

☐ Attribute included in action selection set

☐ Lock Position is unticked on attribute

☐ Attribute layer is thawed and unlocked

☐ Action type is correct — Move not Stretch

if attribute should move without stretching

☐ Test all grip positions before saving

I appreciate you following through with step-by-step instructions.  However, I don't think the problem I'm experiencing is in the move or stretch function within the block.  When I click on the dynamic block a grip for the block shows up which is also the insertion point of the block.  If I click and hold the insertion grip to move the block the two attributes mentioned earlier do not move when the block is dragged using the grip.  I've been using the move command to move the block since first experiencing this problem but it would be easier to click and drag using the grip.

@wjmdesigns There was something wrong with your "...-i" attribute, so I've recreated it, also you do not need a basepoint parameter in the block if you are not moving the basepoint from where it is originally set. See the attached drawing

Do you know what was wrong with the original attribute or was it simply just one of those things?  I only put the base point inside the block so I could quickly see where the basepoint of the block was.

@wjmdesigns It was just one of those things. Before I deleted your attribute, I made sure the attribute I created had all the same properties as yours.

Hi Howard Walker,

I want to be transparent with the community.

In my past experience of creating furniture block libraries with attributes,

I personally have not encountered this specific problem in my own drawings.

However based on my deep knowledge of dynamic blocks and attributes, the methods I shared are the correct approach to investigate and resolve attribute

movement issues.

If those steps did not solve your problem,

please share:

1. Which AutoCAD version you are using

2. How you created the action — Move or Stretch

3. Did you add the attribute before or after

   creating the action

4. Screenshot of your block editor if possible

With these details I can give you a more

specific solution.
