Memory Concerns using Dynamic Blocks

Hello all,

I have been building a dynamic block library for my job in scaffolding design, both in 3d and 2d, and it has been most useful. My concern, however, is how much unnecessary space am I using by using dynamic blocks and should I be exploding them as I insert them? I feel like exploding the block kind of defeats the purpose of using dynamic blocks.

For a typical design I will have anywhere between 800 and 2400 blocks, most of them being duplicates as they are the same part used in different locations. How concerned should I be with using dynamic blocks for bigger files and how quickly do they consume available memory?

I'm not sure if I've fully explained what I'm asking but any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

"consume available memory" is too open-ended: yes, thousands of dynamic blocks in a single DWG file will slow down your AutoCAD performance in that file. The perception varies based on your hardware, expectations, and abilities. It happens to all of us.

I would make a copy of the file and explode the blocks. I think you will find the exploded blocks file is larger, but try working in both files and see which one works faster.

Of course the nice thing about blocks is they can't accidentally be changed or distorted, which is why they are created in the first place.
