Inserting a block

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am running Autocad 2004 using Windows 7.

I know, but this is what my company wants, so there's that.

I cannot insert a block into a drawing from outside of the drawing; that is; off my hard drive.

I get a fatal error and Acad crashes.

I have a screen shot of the error.\

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Is that block prepared with a higher version of AUtocad?

For example, is it prepared on Autocad 2019 and saved in 2000 format?

No, everything I do is at the 2004 level or below.

Have you tried inserting it into a totally blank drawing?

Can you open the drawing on your hard drive? If you can run an AUDIT on it to fix any errors.

If not post the block here so we can have a look and see if it's fixable.

I've run audit on the block and the detail drawing with 0 errors.

I've opened a blank drawing with the same results - fatal error.

The detail drawing will let me insert other blocks, but not this one.

I have the block attached.

This is an intermittent problem Doesn't happen all the time, but is aggravating when it does.

here is no cure for intermittent: the problem may be your destination file.

There is nothing wrong with your file, works fine here in AutoCAD 2017-2018-2019 and the DWGTRUEVIEW viewer for just viewing: but we haven't been in R2004 is a very long time, don't know anyone using it either.

I ran -RECOVER using Autocad 2016 and found 2 errors. I am attaching the fixed file here inorder for you to check, if the problem persists.

Thanks S. Faris - that fixed the problem.

I was a simple figure so I actually re-drew it, but it's good to know that I may have errors in  some of my blocks that I use a lot.

Another cause for what you described is a file being inserted into a drawing that has an xref of the same name. Autocad drawings will fail when you try that.
