*U blocks are unnamed blocks that are also called "anonymous blocks". They
are created by AutoLISP or ObjectARx apps. You may also see similar blocks
such as *A, *D, and *X.

AutoCAD automatically purges unreferenced anonymous blocks when drawings are
first loaded. So, all you need to do is, close the drawing and then re-open
it.

Then they are being used in the drawing. Do you use Dynamic blocks? If
you do any change to them makes them an unnamed block.

I don't know how "Block Tree" works but try bcount and see what you get.

I found in block attribute manager even more(See attachment).

All those unnamed blocks are your dynamic blocks. At least that's my guess.

Close but not quite (i believe), they are created when ever you open a DB in the block editor. You should be able to purge them all out, if you cant then they must be in use and/or created by another means lol

List a dynamic block see what it says.

When you list a DB, it gives a block name and an anonymous name.

Block Name: "S_title"
Anonymous Name: "*U28"

When that instance of the DB is deleted, its anonymous name shows up in the
purge list. Those are automatically purged on closing and reopening.

The close and open doesn't work for me either. They are all purgable
anonymous blocks, and I can do it manually, but they won't go automatically.
I sure wish they would though...

If you insert a dynamic block "as is", it will not create an anonymous "*U"
block. But, if you insert a dynamic block and change it dynamically, an
anonymous block will automatically be created. It will not appear in the
list when using the INSERT BLOCK and the RENAME BLOCK commands. But, if it
has nested attributes, it will appear in the BATTMAN command as long as the
anonymous block exists as an inserted block. If all instances of the
anonymous block are deleted, than it can be purged.

BTW, I'm using AutoCAD 2006.

Purge not an option or just too many drawings to work from?
