dynamic block midpoint stretch is bad...can't find the error!

I need a fresh pair of eyes on this.  The attached dwg shows two similar (very complicated) dynamic blocks.  The block in red REFUSES to cooperate like the block in green.  I've even tried deleting out the midpoint stretches completely and redoing, it but it always ends up in this catastrophe.  I cannot figure it out, can someone provide some insight?  Thanks in advance!

Where's your other stretch action attached to the STRETCH: BF parameter?

In the good block you have STRETCH3 and STRETCH4 attached to it.

In the bad block you only have STRETCH4.

something weird is going on with the selection set...I deselected a few things and now it works, but i'm still not sure why.
