Dynamic block lookup

Hello,
I like to know if someone can do a screen cast on how to get this dynamic lookup to work.
What I would like is to create a lookup were a person would pick one number or a combination of numbers from the lookup I created (junk.dwg) and have it shown in the box below the route heading (junkplanpro.dwg)
Thanks

Currently I am not able to do a Screencast. But I'll explain how it is done.

  1. Open "I want the lookup numbers to showup here" in Text editor
  2. Right-click inside the editor and select "Insert Field"
  3. Select "Objects" under "Field Category"
  4. Select "Object" under "Field Name"
  5. Click on the "Crosshair" icon at the Top-Middle next to Object Type
  6. Select your Dynamic block containing the Lookup
  7. Select "Lookup1" under property
  8. Close the text editor
  9. Now change the Lookup value of the Block
  10. Regen and see if the Field is updated to the new value

Hello,

Thanks that worked but I would like to know if there is a easier way instead of all these clicking. Is there anyway that I can place my dynamic lookup block in the space below the route column and a co-worker just click on the word and picks on of the number or numbers and he/she will just see the value.

Thanks

I've done it with visibility states(attached). Check and let me know if that's what you are looking for.

Hello,

This is exactly what I am looking for since I am new to this can you show me a screen cast how you did this. When doing the screen cast can you do it slow some people do it so fast and it is hard to follow.

Thanks

Hi, Sorry that it took some time time to reply for this message. Was not in an environment where I could record a Screenscast. But even though I provided 2 Options, First one with the visibility state and the Second one with the Lookup Field Option, I would not recommend you to go with the visibility option(So I am not uploading a screencast for it). Meanwhile I have already done recording a screencast for The Lookup Option and is inserted below. Autodesk takes some time to gets the recording verified, So If it is not playable for you, wait for sometime and try again.

Regarding the speed in which I have done the Screencast. If you find it too fast to follow, there is a Playback Rate button at the bottom right shown as 1X you can adjust it to 0.5X. And next to that there is a SHOW KEYBOARD OVERLAY option which will help you see the shortkeys I have used (I tried to avoid using shortkeys, but i kind of forgets about it after having a red border of recording around the screen)

If you still want to know how the visibility option is done. Let me know and I will upload it.

Hello,

For the visibility block this is exactly what I need where a person can choose one value but is there some way that a person can type in any two or three values and it will show up. The problem is that there are so many compensations' of numbers that needs to be placed in  the visibility status that it would be way to much..

If this cant be done I still would like a screencast of this one.

Thanks

Hi, Visibility states method is the last method that you should be using since this method will require more effort to be put into the block if incase you decide to add a bunch of numbers.

Q.For the visibility block this is exactly what I need where a person can choose one value but is there some way that a person can type in any two or three values and it will show up?

A. If that is what your actual requirement is, then you can do attributes inside the Block. Which will alow you to add any number that you want to show up.

If possible can you be more specific on your requirement?

1. You want to type a custom value, or you need to select it from a drop-down list of numbers?

2. Do you have a list of numbers that you require on this block, or it is going to be random?

Don' understand what you mean by a custom value, it does not have to be from a drop-down list of
numbers but I thought it might be easier.
2. Do you have a list of numbers that you require on this block, or it is going to be random? The only numbers for use will be 1, 12, 37, 101, 116, 121, and 128 but like I said, "It could be a combination of any numbers."

Maybe going with the block attribute would be the best bet.

I still would like a screen cast for the visibility because I will be able to use it on other parts.

Thanks
