Creating a dynamic double door

I've been trying to read up on this for a while and all the information I could find wasn't really helping me in any sort of way.

I have found a video on youtube of a guy creating this dynamic double door and it is exactly what I need I just don't really get how it's done.

In terms of:

Stretch & Scale.

If any one could give me a help with this. I'd very much appreciate it.

What you are asking is for the very basics of dynamic blocks.  There are quite a few free youtube videos that outline the basics more easily and better than I could do via text.  Watch a few vids on the basics and if you have specific questions then report back and ask them.

Thanks for your reply,

I know how to create a dynamic single door I haven't got a problem with that, the trouble comes when I try and create a double one. Since there is no videos on how to create one.

What specific issues are giving you trouble?  Post your double door block file and give details on how you want it to behave and what is not working for you.

The trouble I'm having understanding is, how do you make it so if you stretch it from the mid point of the double door so that both doors change size? If you see what I mean?

Have attached .DWG

Here's one way to set up the parameters and actions to do what you are asking.  See screencast.

Hi,

I tried making the dynamic door following the posted video but something went wrong and I can't figure out what.

I couldn't activate the sound so maybe I missed a step.

Could you please help me?

Thank you,

SK

You missed several important steps and diagnosing the issues took a decent amount of effort.  First, when you add a stretch action to a linear parameter you are asked to select the endpoint that is associated with that action.  A red point icon appears at the closest endpoint and when you select with the left mouse button it chooses the endpoint that is currently highlighted.  You got two of those wrong.  You also had several items added to action selection sets that should not have been.  Notice the diagnosis video was actually longer than creating the block in the first place.  Paying close attention to what point you associate with an action is quite important, as is what objects you include in the action's selection set.

Thank you for the tips and for taking the time to explain what I did wrong.

Now that you have this block working, would you mind sharing it.  I, like you, have worked on this for hours on end and still don't have it licked.  I found several examples on Youtube but no instructions on how to build it.  I built a single door in 2008 from Ellen Finkelstein's instructions and have been using it and mirroring it for pairs, but a pair swing would be much better.

Is your system variable BACTIONBARMODE set to 0?

No, Currently set to 1.

The block is working correctly from the center when stretching but one arch is not stretching correctly when I stretch the whole block..

Try setting BACTIONBARMODE to 0 and then adding the scale action to the stretch action's selection set.
