combining x2 blocks (one annotative & one dynamic)

Hi all,

I know there must be a way to accomplish this seemingly simple task, but I'm at a loss.

I want to combine two blocks and retain access to the individual functions of each. This all stems from the fact that this was originally a single grid line block with an annotated marker, which is super simple and functional, but if you want to use it as a base XRef file and secure their layout, Multiple scales became a problem when the grid line would scale with the annotated marker.

Does anyone know how to combined these x2 blk and still be able to change the tag number and stretch the gridline??

Thanks for your time.

In the attached file I edited the Original block to make part of it annotative, but not the entire block.  I'm not sure if its exactly what you were asking for.

I turned off the annotative setting for the entire block. Scaled it up 100x. Set the attribute to be annotative, set its height and added all the annotative scales.  I replaced the fat line/rectangle with a text character so it could be made to be annotative as well.  This makes the top parts annotative while the grid line stays at its dynamically adjusted length.

Holy-cow Marc,

Your reply slipped through the cracks as is been a hectic month... just wanted to take a minute and thank you for what you've done, x10 above and beyond what I was expecting.

It's perfection!!

Happy Monday.

Kelly.

Hi Mark,

I've had a chance to muck around with the new block you put together for me. Thanks again!!

One question for you, though.

I get that you've added each of the text scales within the blk, but it doesn't seem to translate as the scales change... I feel as though I'm missing something. Maybe I'm using it incorrectly?

This is how I intended to use it. I want to create a secure grid file with a blk that does exactly what your blk does but independently scales text to match the files it is used in... as an xref!! I'm not 100% sure about this , but is your blk intended to exist within each file, and would the user go into it and manually set the text scale in each drawing?

Cheers.

Kelly.

Its a behavior I don't quite understand.  When they're Xreffed into another drawing its creating additional scale names (1:50_XREF, 1:100_XREF, etc), even though the drawing already has the named scales that were used the XREF.  It won't use them, makes new *_XREF ones, and then the dynamic blocks will only use those *_XREF scales.
