Block Attribute Help

Hi,

I am trying to setup a standard set of symbols for our Electrical Drawings and having a difficult time understanding the attributes.

I've got a standard double switched socket that I've set up as a block and attached an attribute to it. However I'd like to be able to move the attribute and not sure how to.

Below is an image of another companies socket block. When selecting the socket a node appears above the 2 which allows me to move it when required.

Below is an image of the socket I am trying to setup to do the same. As you can see a node only appears at the bottom left of the block and the number 2 isnt moveable.

Is anyone able to help please? I have tried google but I dont think I am asking the right question. Probably an easy to thing to solve but our CAD requirements are quite basic and I'm trying to better them.

Many thanks!

There are two ways of doing it. One using a point move on the attribute. The other just change the LOCK POSITION property to NO. See the image below

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. The second option didnt change anything. What is a point move?

That has created a point, but the 2 doesnt move with the point..

It also has warning within the block which indicates I'm not doing something right...

Apologies if I'm just being dumb.

I would mention that changing the attribute property locked to NO, is generally a bad idea in dynamic blocks.  Dynamic properties will not work on attributes that are not locked.  If you did not set the locked property back to yes, that may be why the move action is not working.

Hi.

If all you need is a simple graphic block that has nothing dynamic about it except the attribute itself, then simply setting the "locked position" (see screenshot from another post above to see where this property is inside the block editor) to "NO" is all you really need.

The thing about updating blocks with attributes is that, after you're done updating the block and then you close out of the block editor and  save the edits to your block, nothing changes in the model - until you "sync" the attributes to match your edit. To do that, simply call the command "AttS..." (I forgot the full command name right now - doing this from memory), select the block you just updated, and voilà - you should see that grip to move your attribute.

Of your dynamic block "really" is dynamic and has other features besides just a movable attribute, then you might need a different solution.
