Auto Rotate North Arrow

I have a north arrow in paper space that I would like to automatically rotate depending on the orientation of a viewport. It would rotate when the UCS in the viewport has been redefined and the PLAN view set to CURRENT UCS. Can this be accomplished without using a lisp?

Not without using LISP or some other custom coding.

Why do you not put the North Arrow in modelspace to start with?

Or you could put it in paperspace within the bounds of the viewport, then choose CHSPACE to move it into the viewport.

The Civil 3D product has a north arrow and a tool to place it in paperspace with a link to a viewport. The north arrow will rotate with the viewport, and, the north arrow can be rotated and the viewport will rotate.  It's a two way relationship.  There is also a graphic scale with similar function.  They've been available for at least the past 3 releases.  While they do initially work, they've proven to be too problematic to use.  The viewports become damaged over time and need to be recreated.

So, just saying, be careful what you wish for.

We put all north arrows in model space.

I haven't experimented using the North arrow in model space but it seems like it would be problematic. There will be multiple end users and everybody sets up model space a little differently from one another and it would seem that with needing to modify the viewport orientation, panning and changing the viewport scale there will be issues.

I found a solution that will work for us. I am using the following very simple LISP found here: http://cadtips.cadalyst.com/viewports/rotate-block-match-viewport
