Performance Review

I've got your attention, now the problem description.

I had a welding student approach me recently with an idea for a sculpture for which she wanted to first generate a 3D printed model.  I told her that T-splines would be a good way of creating the model, but I am not an artist (my work tends to be boxes and cylinders) .

The sculpture will be made of various metal plates (some hammer deformed) soldered and/or welded together.

It is single side thickness with front shallow convex and similar to the face of a coin in the image of a wolf attached.  The backside will be concave with image of a map.

I have seen some fabulous work here by some real artists and hope someone here can help her (and me) showcase what can be done in Fusion 360 with T-splines.

I am up for performance review and my boss came out of the welding program here - so it would be great if I could help a welding student with her project.  Smiley Wink

Lots of kudos for me at review if I can show how I helped a student solve a problem when I didn't know the answer.

How soon do you need a solution? A day, a week?

Before AU would be great (gives me supporting value of travel to user conference) - so that would be about a month.

Sooner would be better.

I am working on another class project (blockhead type geometry) right now with another class so I don't have a lot of time to help her before Oct 30.

I got you covered on this one then. I know a little about T-Splines...Smiley Wink

Do you need audio in the video instruction?

Do you need me to explain what I am doing in the videos (sound)?

Having done that myself - I think that might be putting too much work on you.

It would be great to have video with sound (I understand the basics of the T-splines process), but I don't want to ask for too much.

I would be happy with a surface model that I can then get to a solid body for 3D printing (we have a Fortus large format printer).

I did the first video showing how to make the nose. I wanted to point out exactly how you figure the art side of T-Splines out so the video is 27min long. I also wanted to point out the different ways the geometry could be made. For instance using the face create tool, using the extrusion by pulling edges out holding the "Alt" key and how important the general forms are. With T-Splines you need clean geometry and most important you need your geometry to follow your forms. If your geometry doesn't follow your forms then your T-Spline will never look the way you want it to.

So there is a lot of push pull and shaping and cleaning up the "FLOW" of the geometry. In reality though this nose should only take you about 5 min to create, so videos going forward are not going to focus on the stuff shown in this video.

You will notice performance starts to degrade so we will deal with that in part6...
