PDF output on Mac App Store is "fixed"

All,

Today we released an update on the Mac App Store (App Store version: 1.19.2, Fusion version 2.0.2937) which has a temporary fix for the export PDF hang within drawings.  This fix stops the hang, but requires that you output your PDF file to the Downloads directory.  We have a complete fix coming in April which will include multi-sheet PDF output.

If you are a Mac App Store customer, please update to the latest version and select the Downloads folder when outputting PDF files.

I am sorry for the inconvenience this issue has caused.

Thank you,

Thanks for your support on this issue Kris.

As a very positive point, keep up the great work with Fusion 360, I find it very easy to use and also extremely reliable too!

Cheers,

David.

Hi David,

Can you expand the help menu and click About and check the version number of your build?  It should be 2.0.3033. Also, what Mac OS are you using?  Is anything happening (error, etc.) when you Output PDF, or just nothing and no PDF?

Thanks,
Chris

We have this problem but on the version downloaded from your site. Currently running 2.0.3034 on OSX 10.12.4.

Outputting pdfs from drawings kind of crashes Fusion 360, no output happens. I've sent a few error reports and pinged you on Twitter with no luck. This is currently in the way of production so it's a serious issue.

Hi Ville,

Thank you for sending in the error report, I found it in our system (CER_148850918).  Can you please confirm though, are you using the build downloaded from autodesk.com or from the Mac App Store?  Your crash is ending up with crashes from a Mac App Store (MAS) build.  The problem has to do with the MAS Fusion not being able to access certain Font folders on your system.

I am checking with the developers on a possible workaround until we get this fixed, but if you are using a Mac App Store build, installing Fusion from https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/overview should fix the problem.  If you're already running the build downloaded from there, then we may have another separate bug to track down.

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for a swift and good reply!

Well, perhaps it's my mistake and I have installed via App Store. Was a year ago so hard to remember. But I did "check" by downloading from autodesk.com and trying to install. The installer however didn't pass through stating that I'm already on the latest version.

Got any idea how I could work around that? Should I try and uninstall the earlier version and reinstall from autodesk.com? That obviously makes me a bit jitterish as I really can't afford to lose our files. And yes, I know it's cloud based but it's still a scary thought 😄

Hi Ville,

Can you launch Fusion then expand the Help menu (upper right) and click About and let me know what version number appears under the logo?  The latest version is 2.0.3034.  The downloaded version from autodesk.com auto-updates from time to time so you should be up to date.  The Mac App Store prompts you that an update is available then you need to update manually.

While you have the Help menu expanded, can you click on Diagnostic Log Files and send them to me (christopher.miller@autodesk.com)?  Also I received some suggestions from the developer on how we might be able to work around this, but it's a bit involved to go into here, so if you're willing/able to try, please email and I will get that information to you.

Thanks,
Chris

I'm still having the PDF issue. I'm running the latest version from the Mac App Store and it still crashes when I try to output a drawing.

Hi a.devane,

We are currently tracking another bug involving crashes with output to pdf.  While the symptom is the same, the cause is a separate problem where certain fonts are, for whatever reason (permissions, etc.) not accessible, and we're not handling this correctly and crashing instead.

One workaround in the meantime is to open the details of the drawing in A360 (click the V button in the data panel for that drawing) > Open Details on Web > Export (upper right corner) > PDF.  This involves some extra steps but will send you a link to download the PDF.  Sorry for the extra work this is causing.  We are working on the fix and plan to have it out in the next major update.

Thanks,
Chris
