Exporting STL - STL Translator failed to export data

I just built this part in Fusion 360, but now I'm having trouble exporting to STL. I was able to export from the dashboard, but I would like the fine tuned control that the export feature within Fusion 360 CAD portion has.

Here is a screenshot of the error and part I am working on.

I have played with the options but am still having no luck.

Thanks for your help.

Check your job status. Click the clock icon at the upper right hand corner to the left of your profile and help menu. Make sure you are in online mode and that you are connected to the internet. I believe the stl translator is server based.

Interesting re online vs. offline status, I was in fact working in offline and the reason is I don't want to share all my files with the online server.

I have no desire to have every file I'm working on saved to the cloud.

If you are telling me I don't get full functionality in "offline" mode that is deeply dissapointing.

Can I work in "online" mode and NOT have all my files saved automatically to the cloud?

Also - I'm really struggling to understand why the file save location UI is so gosh darned awful. Seems to always want to save my files in a project folder that I can not select the location of? Is that because I have no choice where to save files unless I export them?  Very confusing.

Fusion 360's  data is saved in the cloud!

That is how it's intended to work and is it's main purpose. Whether that's good or not can be argued, but that is how it is.

While you can save you designs locally by exporting them as .f3d that functionality is not meant as a replacement to save files in the cloud.

This has never been any different and has bee clearly communicated. I thought I point that out!

I had my file saved in the cloud but I was working offline and I had this error. I exported it as f3d and saved it locally to my computer. I opened that file and was able to save as STL.

I get the exact same error but I get it before I even try to export it when I try to make a mesh it looks like a lighter shade of blue and gives me the exact same error

I had the same Problem on windows 10, because I inserted some parts as derive and tried to Export These parts in an assembly.

To solve this problem I first had to change the original parts to components. Then you need to update the derives in the assembly before you can export them as a STL file.

Thanks for all your help

Here is a workaround if you still struggling.

Just unselect the body and wiggle the viewport around. Try from a different view and try select the body to export. It can take up to 8 or 10 "move object around and select again" tries. I have so far always gotten fusion to export stl's

maybe you should combine several objects into one.. then export this comnined one...
selecting several objects that sould be one.. are not connected corretly anyway.. and fail when selected all and try stl export..
then combining them could help..

Try changing the name of the component, i had a component 1/3 and after renaming it to 1 out of 3 it did export succesfully, guess they want componentnames that are falid windows filenames.  Seriously autodesk, get better developers...

I'm having right now the same problem, and its seems like Fusion needs internet connection for the export process to stl. And these days ( LOT OF THEM), they are "Updating" their services, so the access is like we are offline and as consequence we can't do the export to stl.

Now, I can't understand how is that possible, how update the services cause these problems, I'm a Senior programmer and the IT team of this company are doing things really wrong because an update shouldn't stop the services in those ways, and less several and continuos days... is really bad...

I wanted to add my experience for posterity. I spent hours trying to debunk why tf i cpuldnt export this extremely simple relatively small design to stl on personal hardrive.

I had a base feature turned for some reason, may have been accidental keystroke of a shortcut key but i had been adding debossed text to a sketch when i tried to export. Never saw that base feature option when id done the same thing on other designs.

I "activated the component" and it allowed me to export immediately.

Even 5 years later, this is very relavent.

I had my fusion app essentially get stuck in offline mode.
Crashing Fusion everytime I tried to go "online", reinstalling the app fixed it.
