Civil 3D currently does not have a way to model existing vertical features. Whereas topographic surfaces are modeled with either grid or tin surfaces, retaining walls have unfortunately been left out of the Civil 3D world. LandXML contains the element "RetWall" for retaining wall objects made up of points and/or features. I have yet to meet an engineer that did not at one point in their career have to deal with existing retaining walls, yet their absence from Civil 3D is puzzling. I would like to model vertical face elements in Civil 3D. I would like to be able to create vertical sheet objects that can be created from a point cloud similar to creating surface objects from a point cloud. Retaining wall objects should be able to be analyzed for verticality, for batter deviation. Retaining walls should be able to be pasted into surfaces, where possible, and if not possible due to a 1:0 vertical face or even an overhang, Civil 3D should just provide the options for either ignoring the paste operation, clipping the surface at the retaining wall location, or approximating the surface to "waterfall" over the retaining wall. "Vertical surfaces", retaining walls should be able to be projected into profiles views and also should be sectioned in section views. Corridors should be able to generate design "vertical surface" objects, just as corridor surfaces. Retaining wall objects should be able to be imported/exported to/from Infraworks.
