More viewers.

More viewers.

Hi.

The traditional civil engineering software (in Spain the most important are Istram Ispol (Buhodra) and Clip (Toolsa)) has in general viewers to show some object (alignment, profile, sections, corridor sections,...) and includes an integrated datagridview with all the geometry data of the object in the same viewer.

In Civil 3D the concept is different and it has very few viewers. (I think that "corridor sections editor", and "object viewer" to watch the object in 3D) and not more.

So, Civil 3D takes advantage to show the objects which will be plotted as if it was the viewer in the same Model Space.

On the one hand, it's good because we don´t have to open constantly viewers, but on the other hand, sometimes is very poor to have to do zoom in the model space.

For example:

If we have several surface sections. (from  sources: surfaces A and B), which I have them in section views, If I want to see each station (of the sample line), I have to do zoom to every section view in the Model Space. (in my app, I have a command to do zoom for each section view according to the selected station).

But, why not a surface sections viewer  (or section views viewer)? to going to the previous/next station?

I would like more viewers in Civil 3D and not to do zoom always in the Model Space.

Look at this video at 0:14 minute:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tp_ZvgTB5UY

You can watch how that software are displaying 4 viewports, one of them is the "Drive command in Civil 3D".

The  (automatic) station tracker (by frecuency) is activated.

Now, try to do it in Civil 3D.

Yes I am sick of editing vertical geometry through something that is designed for the drawing environment. Not the design environment.

12D in Australia works in a similar way... see here

I don't dont understand why they have the "Corridor section editor" but they don't have a "Alignment Vertical Geometry Editor".

Note @peterfunkautodesk this would greatly increase the performance of Civil 3D model files. Because we would not have to have 50 longitudinal sections all regenerating in our drawing all the time everytime something changes.

It would also solve the problem of having to look for the correct profile view by scrollign around in model space everywhere. You jsut pick it and it generates!!

Why not scrap the profile view editor in infraworks then and just put all the profile views in the plan view..

Looks like Civil 3D users are doomed to an eternity of scrolling and poor profile editing performance.

Civil 3D is dead.. switch to 12D http://www.12d.com/ or bentley open roads https://www.bentley.com/en/products/brands/openroads
