When setting Conditional Horizontal Targets, it would be very cool if you could target an alignment that has masking and have the masked area be a target not found condition. This would eliminate the tedium of creating separate polylines along the path. It would be worth it to create an alignment specifically for this purpose.
I found a way to do this without masking. When you create the alignment for "Target Found", only select those objects that will be found, nothing in the "not found" areas. The alignment can have discontinuous linework. This works beautifully.
