Add contour labels to surface

Add contour labels to surface

We would like to avoid the need to individually add contour labels or draw multiple polylines to create contour labels at intervals. The process is messy, not neat and we end up with overlapping contour labels. What we would like is the ability to select a surface and add contours based on Civil 3D labels at intervals/spacings. No more point, click, point click.

We are aware that there is a tool to do this (https://apps.autodesk.com/CIV3D/en/Detail/Index?id=appstore.exchange.autodesk.com%3aaddlabelstoconto... but we would like this as standard functionality in Civil 3D.

What if the user had the ablity to add more vertexes on the existing line. Like you said you can only point click, but what if you could click in the middle of the two vertexs (like a polyline edit) and right click and add vertex? Sounds simple. But just a thought.

Civil 3D 2016 already has this functionality.

We are really looking for a very simplified method of making sure that each contour has a label. The only way you can do this is to make sure you intersect each contour with a polyline. On a large topo this is very cumbersome and the current tool set doesn't do it with ease. It can be achieved but it's not pretty/nice.

Ideally we want to simply select a surface, add contours, specify interval and then apply labels to each contour making sure each has a label and is all dynamic.

If Civil 3D 2016 has this functionality, then please share how you would accomplish this.

Ok. so would it be possible where a label could have a proxmity sensor on it based upon the annotation scale of the drawing? Something like that?

Oh, got it..Yes, this would be useful.

I could see Development implementing this by simply adding an "ALL" option within the current command at the command line prompt.

I think that should work. Hopefully not that hard to code in, but that should keep everyone from going crazy when the surface continues to get updated and revised.

Awesome!

Excellent, does this mean it would be included in the up and coming 2017 release or 2018?

I'm fairly certain it took me about 4 hours to program this solution. Why is it taking 2+ years for this feature?

An option that I'd like added is to specify how far from the beginning of the contour line the first label is added at.

Quite some time this idea has been accepted.

Is there already a LSP for this?
