Seeing the layer settings for the various components would give users a virtual wormhole to layer properties At the very least, this would send us in the right direction if we see our layer is off. To be super useful, you could click these buttons, here, on this dialog, to turn on/off and freeze/thaw.
Use the space next to the layer name.
