Xref with Point Marker Style using Block (Layer 0)

Hi,

This seems to be a problem that has started since updating to AutoCAD (Civil 3D and non Civil 3D with object enabler) 2018. Our state has provided standard blocks to be used for marking objects on a survey (i.e. light poles, street signs, trees, etc.).

All objects within these blocks are drawn on 0 layer. It is my understanding that this is the correct way to produce these blocks in order for the block to inherit the properties of the layer onto which they are placed.

These blocks are added to the marker style for points, and they do in fact take on the properties of the layer that the marker is placed on within the survey file.

The problem occurs when the survey is then XREFed into our design file. The block used for the marker takes on the properties of 0 layer in our design file. Now we are forced to change our plot style of 0 layer to correctly plot the markers from the survey file. If we wanted to plot street signs and trees differently, we would need to change the blocks in the survey file. Otherwise, we need to plot all of these objects the same way (All color 252, or all color 251 etc.).

Although we can change the blocks in the survey file, this becomes a problem when we receive updated surveys. Also, a lot of our work comes from the state and from surveyor's following our state standards, so this will be an ongoing problem for us.

I am hoping that there is a simple setting that i need to change. Files that we were working on with AutoCAD 2017 were plotting correctly until we started using AutoCAD 2018. The same file exhibits this problem only while using AutoCAD 2018 versions.

This is the Point Style Display in the survey file. I have tried changing the marker layer without a positive result, and the problem seems to be stemming from the fact that the block is drawn with layer 0.

I'm hoping that there is a simple fix. Thank you to anyone that might be able to help.

This is a known issue.

Install the AutoCAD 2018.1.1 update.

You can get it through the Autodesk Desktop App or from your Autodesk Account, Management tab, Updates. It in the left column.

We still have this issue. Multiple computers are updated to the latest (Civil 3D 2018.2 and Autocad 2018.1.2). Some have the issue, some don't. I can't find a rhyme or reason to why. Maybe the fix fell out of the 2018.1.2 update?

Having the same issue here on Civil 3D 2018.2 and Autocad 2018.1.2 - This drove me nuts trying to figure out what the hell was going on with these point styles.

I'm having the same issue.  Just checked my product version and it's updated to 2018.2.  Can't find any more recent updates.
