So at point AutoDesk did one of those Beta testing things where it created a converter program that took the AWWA content catalog for for Plant 3D and converterd it catalog that could be used in Civil 3D. I'm not sure how well it worked but instead of taking the converted catalog and dropping it on the exchange the C3D user to try it out they did nothing AutoDesk....WHY!!!!

The 2nd slide refers to the Project Kameleon technology preview which has now ended. Autodesk Technology previews are often available to the community at large and can be discussed openly in public. Refer here for more details on What is a Technology Preview from Autodesk?

For those not familiar with Project Kameleon. Project Kameleon was a limited technology preview that provided new infrastructure model content authoring tools.  The preview provided two separate stand-alone applications: the Part Shape Modeler and the Parts Editor.  The Part Shape Modeler allowed users to author new Inventor .ipt shape files that could be imported into the Parts Editor.  The Parts Editor allowed users to define sizes for infrastructure content and export content catalogs that could be used in Autodesk InfraWorks and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

The Parts Shape Modeler tool has already graduated from Autodesk Labs and is available as an add-on to Inventor in the InfraWorks 2018 install.  A license of Inventor LT (or Pro) will be required – of course like our other products there is an Inventor 30-day free trial.

Morgan, how do we get the rest of the required product? I see nothing in subscription centre, also if the modeller is included in Inventor 2018 where can I get the same for inventor 2014-7. As the product was built on Inventor 2014 OEM and works with 17 I am expecting a separate download for this to be available somewhere surely?

Without the rest of the product (parts manager) it's fairly useless at the moment and its final that you need to purchase yet another software package to be able to use these parts in Civil3d. OOps Is this going to be released on subscription?

I am still bewildered by this move, I can only assume the current clunky /  buggy part builders included in Civil3d will be fixed and remain in place the future so small businesses can also design in the one product or will there be some discount for the civil3d users so we may finally use drainage parts with a curve sweep element within them?

SAC has been added to Civil3d as was a number of other necessary packages to optimally use the product? Now I see the need for more training (KerChink) on a separate product for us all who want to use BIM to the fullest.

Pity, it was a really great product developed by CraigS and between us got many issues worked out & fixed.

I agree. It has evolved into a great product. I have enjoyed testing the technology preview while it was available.

To answer your question about the two separate standalone applications in the preview. That's great but I'm not a transport planner so don't use infraworks.
I'm guessing I could still download it but without access to inventor at work it's hopeless.

Aggravating as I nearly had a working assembly for a petrol interceptor and attenuation tank, they just needed a few tweaks. (& many more weird stuff not ootb)

I suppose I could do these at home but that's a high risk, will I get away with it before Andy caps wife works out what I'm up to. 🙂

Update: With the release of InfraWorks 2018.1. 

- The Part Shape Modeler is now known as "Autodesk Inventor Infrastructure Modeler Plugin" and Autodesk Inventor 2018 and 2017, both Pro and LT, are supported. The product is bundled with the latest release of InfraWorks (2018.1) installer. See: About the Infrastructure Part Shape Utilities for more information.

- The Part editor tools is now known as"Autodesk Infrastructure Parts Editor". The product can be downloaded from Autodesk Account > Product Updates.  See: About the Parts Editor for more information.

Okay Im not quite ready to call Project Infrastructure Parts Editor thing really awesome and thank you for creating it yet. but has anyone had any trouble opening the converted files from Plant 3d yet?

Hi @mosborne5220, 

When testing Project Kameleon, I discovered the import may error due to non-ASCII characters in Part Family names and Long Descriptions of Part Sizes. Workaround is to use the Plant 3D Catalog Editor to remove these offending characters, if they are found and reprocess.
