Which subassemblies to use to construct this road?

Hi all,

I'm trying to construct these road cross-sections in Civil 3d. I'm not sure if I have done it correctly, also I am having trouble deciding which subassembly is used for the bike lane and the 4m tree offset.

Road A: 26 m wide road reserveRoad A: 26 m wide road reserveRoad B: 19.5 m wide road reserveRoad B: 19.5 m wide road reserve

Here are the assemblies I have created using MedianDepressedShoulderExt (median), LaneSuperelevationAOR (carriageway), BasicCurb (curb), GenericPavementStrucure (bike lane), LaneSuperelevationAOR (verge), BasicSidewalk (footpath), and GenericPavementStrucure (tree offset lane). Please let me know if they are correct.

AssembliesAssemblies

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Suki

Hi @sukishums,

Your approach seems OK. Just build your corridor, create a section view, and compare the result with what you need. You might have to make a few adjustments and create more assemblies but this is a good point to begin with. Be careful with shape codes since this will be crucial when computing materials.

Best regards!

That's a complex road, but the assembly looks like a good start. Hash it out and see where it doesn't work, and modify from there. Unfortunately there isn't really a good one-stop guide to deep corridor-craft, so you just have to experiment and research and iterate. (Jeff Bartels corridor videos are indispensable.)

One thing not to ignore is the GenericPavementStructure subassembly in the Lanes tab. It can be pretty handy when you have an odd item in your section to model. (The ShapeTrapezoidal subassembly would be equally handy too if it allowed you the option to control the slope of the bottom link---without that though, it's not very useful at all. Hint, hint Autodesk Civil 3D Team.)

Thanks for the reply. @jameshitt @ecfernandez

But still, I don't know which subassembly to use for the verge and the 4m tree offset. I just want a flat subassembly with grass cover on top, but I can't seem to find it in the Toolspace.

While using GenericPavementStructure, how do I change the value of the shape code from None to something else? cause they are all greyed out in the Subassembly Properties window.

I personally just use LaneSuperelevationAOR for my roads, UrbanCurbGutterGeneral for my kerbs and LinkWidthAndSlope for everything else.

You should just be able to type the code you want for the GenericPavementStructure.  I sometimes use this subassembly, but as mentioned before LinkWidthAndSlope is very versatile.

You can add "grass" to the LinkWidthAndSlope codeset.  But do you need to?  Corridor codesets are pretty advanced stuff.  If you are only creating a surface out of the road corridor, just stick with the "top" codeset.

Thanks for your reply Mike,

Yes, I need the grass surface to show cause eventually I want to bring this model into Infraworks.

For Toplink code, is there a list of code names I can choose from so the correct material will show up correctly in Object Viewer?

You’ll need a Code Set with defined Link Styles so you can stylize them in Infraworks..

You need to invest some time in learning more about creating Code Sets.. creating Link Styles for your Code Set..applying them to your Corridor.. then being able to stylize them over in Infraworks..

As suggested , recommend spending a long weekend or two watching Bartel’s videos on the subject matter..
