Volume Calcs

hello,

Please see the attached sketch.

I have the following surfaces: "1","2","3","4",and "5"already set up in civil 3d.

What's the easiest way to calculate material M-A and M-B as shown in the sketch. I am wondering if need to setup a table in excel or there is a way to do it using Civil 3D.

As always, thank you in advance.

Tony

creating all the clips and transition surfaces would probably be more work than its worth

This is a pretty easy task.

You'd need to create sample lines and materials but it could be done

Hi Matt

I get most surface algebra but this one has that extra subtraction and I'm not sure I see in the blog how to account for it

Looking at material A; M-A

This appears to be all the material between surface 1 and surface 3. Yet the material must not be counted where surface 2 overlaps. I didn't get that from the blog. How is that accounted for?

The same is true for material B

It's all about how you set the above / below values. Specify 3 surfaces and set the aboves and belows properly. In his case, below the flat red line, above the flat blue line, and above the curvy red line.

interesting! I was stuck thinking I could only do two surfaces at a time.

Thanks

I assume you're using a volume criteria. You have to go I to the material properties and add rows in there yourself. I'm traveling this week, otherwise I'd make a video to show you.
