hello,
Please see the attached sketch.
I have the following surfaces: "1","2","3","4",and "5"already set up in civil 3d.
What's the easiest way to calculate material M-A and M-B as shown in the sketch. I am wondering if need to setup a table in excel or there is a way to do it using Civil 3D.

creating all the clips and transition surfaces would probably be more work than its worth

You'd need to create sample lines and materials but it could be done

I get most surface algebra but this one has that extra subtraction and I'm not sure I see in the blog how to account for it
Looking at material A; M-A
This appears to be all the material between surface 1 and surface 3. Yet the material must not be counted where surface 2 overlaps. I didn't get that from the blog. How is that accounted for?
The same is true for material B
